Re: Bad Skin

  • Oh yeah, I second @Aray82 on the oil,  I only use oil on my skin, I purchased it from Sephora and I haven't had to use any other products since I started.  I use a vitamin C oil and it really helped even out my skin!

  • Ask your dermatologist for doxycycline. It's an antibiotic and, as others have mentioned, the best way to treat cystic acne is from the inside.

Be careful with doxycycline. Nausea is a really common side effect. On the few occasions I took it without food, I couldn't keep it down. Minocycline is a less nauseating alternative.

  • I've had similar problems since hitting puberty. Huge cystic pimples all over my face that make colonies on my cheeks. All over my back as well and sometimes on my chest. I went to a dermatologist in November (shortly after getting engaged) and he told me that it's really likely my acne is hormonal acne. I suggest tracking when you break out to figure out if that describes yours as well because it makes a big difference in how they'll treat it.

Anyway, he prescribed spironolactone (75 mg/day) and trentinoin cream which I use at night every other day or every third day depending on the dryness of my skin. I felt terrible for about two weeks while I was adjusting but it's been a little over 6 months and there's been a HUGE difference for me.

My FI has struggled with cystic acne and has had unbelievable results with Candistroy, an over the counter supplement he purchased on Amazon. Just pop the name into google and you'll be able to buy it from Vitamin Shoppe and various other places.  It has completely wiped out the bacteria that created his acne, after 72 hours it was nearly gone and now, a couple months later, its as if he has new skin.  It's done wonders for both him and his brother.  I strongly recommend trying it, it really did change his life.
I typed this product into amazon. Probiotic? Not sure how something for digestion is supposed to clear up  acne... How did your Fi hear about this product?
