Re: Monday already?

  • @CocoBellaF - your yard looks really nice!

@Swazzle - Costa Rica for your anniversary sounds amazing!  Thankfully trigger thumb for me isn't all that painful just annoying because my thumb is locked in a straight position, I can't use a can opener, scissors, play video games (not that I play all that often), etc.

@Hummingbird125 - YUCK, hope your boss has a solution soon to the smell!

@buddysmom80 - Thanks, I'm actually looking forward to the surgery - I haven't been able to bend my thumb for 3 months!!

@TwoDimes - So 'Draft Day' was good?  FI seems to be going back and forth on seeing it because it has to do with his beloved Cleveland Browns (but they continue to disappoint).

@Peaseblosm55 - YAY 2 Months!  No pics from your fitting?? What's up with that??  Today is my 6 month mark!!!

    @Sakalicious - Nice new tattoo!!

Hope everybody who is not feeling 100% feels better!!!

  • My weekend was good. Friday was just a terrible day all around because of work - we had a major crisis that I had to handle. Crisis communications is much more fun to learn about than it is to put into practice. I had to work at a game across town, so I picked up Chipotle on my way home, and even that didn't help my mood, so that tells you how cranky I was. I went to bed fairly early and felt much better then next day.

Saturday, I had to work most of the day. We lost our lacrosse game to our rivals in double overtime (GRRR), but BF & I went out to dinner with some friends in the evening, so it was good. I watched the NCAA Hockey Championship game, and wasn't happy with the outcome, but oh well.

Yesterday, I slept in, BF & I cleaned up the apartment, I went for a run - Violet & I did the first day of C25K and determined that she will no longer be my running partner. She gets distracted by EVERYHING (omg, there's a people over there, they probably want to pat me, we should go check. oh wait, there's a car coming, they might stop and pat me, so we should stop, just in case. this tree smells good. OH another person. they DEFINITELY want to pat me. wait, i have to poop.)

We ordered chinese food for dinner (YUM), watched some Always Sunny, and then Resurrection, and then I went to bed!

And you guys complaining about sweating... HA! I've always been a big sweater, but my anxiety meds make it ten times worse. I am ALWAYS hot. I just have to think about activity, and I sweat. The worst is when I get nervous, and start sweating (and it all comes from my head), and then I get embarrassed by it, and that makes me sweat more... it's a vicious cycle. Yesterday after my run, BF asked me when I was going to take a shower (he gets in IMMEDIATELY after the gym) and I said "Uh, well, I'm going to wait until I STOP sweating, because if I'm still sweating when I get out of the shower, I will have defeated the purpose of taking the shower." Welcome to my world.

  • @sakalicious he is SO heavy now that he has no balls! I had to put him on the bed last night (he jumped off for NO reason) and I was like "Quigley you're SO heavy". He gave me a sad look. Fortunately it's been nice out so we've been taking him for more walks and frisbee time in the yard.

Noooo why is it Monday, how do I fix it

I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm in a pretty terrible mood today. I wanted to start C25K week 5 this morning, since I'm busy tonight, but I didn't get enough sleep. I'm also really upset about the shootings in Kansas yesterday.

Friday night, we stayed in and relaxed, and I ordered what I hope will be my wedding shoes. I finally gave up on the idea that I could actually make it the whole night in heels. So, flats it is. CLICKY

Saturday, I slept in and relaxed with birdo, and then we had dinner with J's parents and one of his brothers and sisters-in-law. We watched The Devil Wears Prada, which I'd never seen before, but I liked it a lot.

Yesterday, I finally tried out my immersion blender to make smoothies, and it worked okay! I had to start blending in a bowl, and then move the (what can only be described as) sludge to the cup that came with the blender in order to get everything nice and well-blended. It was pretty yummy.

I also planned meals for the next week, which was stressful. I didn't even bother trying to keep kosher for Pesach last year, and this is the first time I've been trying to keep kosher while also on a diet. Add in our tight budget for the rest of the month, and you've got stresssssss. I'm mostly going to stick with baked potatoes and sweet potatoes, matzah pizza, and apple sauce (which I can make from scratch).

I am very anxious about tomorrow. I'm in a poster session all damn day, and then I have my first committee meeting. It's also the anniversary of the Marathon bombing, so ... ughhhhh might save all my calories for the end of the day and then eat ice cream or something.

All this talk about sweating reminds me of a question I wanted to ask of all the ladies who went shopping for engagement rings with your Hs/FIs/BFs -- did anyone else think that it was crazy hot in every single jewelry store? Every time we have looked, I get super hot and sweaty. I think it's because of the bright lights they shine over all the diamond jewelry cases to make the diamonds look so sparkly. It feels like it's a million degrees. I've complained about this to BF, but he doesn't agree with me. He thinks I'm getting hot/sweaty because I'm nervous/excited/feeling all the feels. Anybody else want to weigh in on this??
YES. We only went to two, but I was dying in both of them. I kind of thought it was because I was nervous/excited/all the feels/I sweat like a 500 lb. man, but you're right, the lights probably do have something to do with it!

  • @TwoDimes I completed agree. I took a family heirloom ring to a large jewelry store to have it inspected and started sweating like mad. I took my coat off and was still feeling damp by the time I left, it was ridiculous. If they're all like that then looking for rings is going to be a nightmare!

    Wedding Countdown Ticker

  • Morning sucks and Monday sucks. I had another sleepless weekend, but this one was more of my own doing (I choose to ignore clocks, I pay when I feel tired).

Friday night we had gaming, but very few people showed up. I actually put the knitting down, let's put it that way. Usually I knit and watch Netflix while people game, but this week they were so short on players that not only could they not tabletop game, but they couldn't even play board/card games without me. I learned Munchkin - it was a lot of fun, and I'd play again.

Saturday we met my parents for lunch, which was not a bad thing overall I guess. We started talking about the wedding, and I'm already scared this is going to blow up beyond my control. We came into this with a potential guest list of about 30 people. We left lunch with a potential guest list of 50 people. And they're right, not inviting these extra people would be offensive, plus we like them better than many of the people on the original list (weird family dynamics at play). What bugs me is they offered to cover the marginal cost. Now I know they who pay get a say, and it makes me worried that they're going to keep throwing money at things they see as "problems" (e.g., I'd rather get my dress off a discount rack or at a department store than do the whole bridal shop experience; Mom already wants me to schedule an appointment at a bridal shop).

That being said ... FI and I started talking other stuff. There's a facility on campus we could rent for a very reasonable rate for the day. We're not big dancing people, so we could still do a buffet at a restaurant in a reserved room. Not all 50 people would come; some are in poor health (moving to another location would not improve this, they're scattered around) and some just don't care. We started putting together a budget and learned that photography is going to blow it. How do people find photographers at reasonable rates in the middle of Nowheresville?

Yesterday thankfully was quiet. Saturday was too stressful for yesterday to not be quiet. FI went to Captain America. I worked on a scarf. Got a ton of boxes - I need to start packing for moving day.

Thank you! Yes, that's the color I picked. I know they're not going to be as glitzy and silver-y in person (based on the reviews, but also the video on Zappos). But I've heard amazing things about Earth shoes, and I think they'll still go with my dress.

@KeptInStitches Does your mom have other daughters/children? Maybe she just wants the "bridal" experience with you. Also, yes, photography is such a budget killer...but if you can swing a little bit more towards it the results will be worth it IMO. These are pictures you'll have forever and you'll want them to look good. I won't lie...I had sticker shock when I started looking at photographers. @southernpeach89 got hers for a pretty awesome rate but FI didn't want to use him so when we looked elsewhere and found out that everyone else was double on average it was a real eye-opener.

@phira I love the color of your shoes! I'm not a big flats person but I think they'll go beautifully with your dress!

@LaPeanut1018, I'm the only girl. I have a younger brother. She's wanted a "girly girl" her whole life and didn't get it with me. Usually it's okay because she remembers that, but now ... she's trying to shoehorn me into it again.

I'm not a photography person (I'm like the Elbonians in Dilbert, cameras steal my soul), so I really cannot justify expensive photography. We're probably never going to look at those pictures again much. FI and I have talked about going over to the art department or the campus newspaper and asking if someone wants to shoot a wedding and family pictures for a portfolio.

    Edit because punctuation is hard.

@LaPeanut1018 Thank you! If they fit and I don't send them back, I'll try to get a pic of me in the dress with the shoes.

And by "try," I mean I've already lost 2 lbs dieting, but I've got about 10 to go before we can zip the dress up again ...

  • @swazzle I can't believe it's almost your anniversary.  Seems like just yesterday @csousa1, @BriSox81 and I were drunk as hell on the dance floor and I was filming the ceremony.

I had a really shitty meeting with my boss on Friday so I went home, ate Chinese food, and drank a bottle of wine through a straw.  Saturday I got my newest tattoo (see below) and DH and I just hung out, watching netflix.  Yesterday I worked and did laundry.

    Best time EVER.
  • Friday I cleaned house. I still had my Nativity scene from x-mas out, so it was definitely time! I also got a little crafty and copied @LaPeanut1018's succulent wreath. I used the fake succulents from my wedding centerpieces and added a burlap bow and a "G" to monogram it. Turned out super cute...I'll try to remember to take a pic tonight to share.

Saturday I met one of my girlies for breakfast with her little man (he's two). We had a great time catching up and coloring. Then ran some errands. Saturday night H and I went to a pre-Easter dinner at another girlfriend's house. SO much great food, tons of wine...and then played Cards Against Humanity well into the night. Super fun evening!

Sunday we slept in. I bet yet another girlfriend for mani/pedis. What a treat! Then I went home to do some more cleaning/chores (can you tell my mom is coming in this week?) and watched some TV with H before bed.

All in all it was a pretty relaxing and fun weekend!

@allusive007 Can't wait to see a picture of your wreath! I haven't even made mine yet but I plan on making some time for it this week.

@phira You are doing great! My weight was 3 lbs down last week after 3 straight weeks of it being "up". I still have a long long ways to go to get to my ideal healthy weight but right now I'm just trying to lose what I can before the wedding.

@LaPeanut1018 That's great! And I'm super floored by you running 5 miles--I'm still not able to do a 5k yet. I know I'll get there, but it's so hard to get into a good groove.

My deadline right now is the end of May (engagement photos), which is great because then a couple weeks after that is my 5-year reunion. Possibly will bump into 2 ex-boyfriends ...

  • @Swazzle Costa Rica!! I'm so jealous! I went once and loved it. All I have to add: HOT SPRINGS!! oh ok and zip lining! :)

@Phira I have those shoes!! They're so comfortable and they're actually pretty silvery in person (not sure if that's good for you or not--but I love it).

I'm so sad it's Monday. I was studying all day yesterday and totally forgot it was actually still the weekend! So now I feel like this week is just going to feel longer than ever--especially since I have a few deadlines this week.

The weekend was pretty awesome though. It was BF's birthday so we had bottomless mimosas (always a win)! Both of BF's parents forgot that it was his birthday and didn't call/text. But both my parents remembered and texted him! It almost made me feel worst that my parents remembered!

I was so happy that it was getting steadily warmer out, but when I woke up today--it was SNOWING! I am so over this weather!
  • I am not all that thrilled that it's Monday again already, but since it's gorgeous out today and it's a really slow day, I'm not all that upset about it either. However, I ran out of half and half and sugar at my house this weekend, so when I brought my black coffee to work and thought we had cream only to find out it's POWDERED, it ruined things a little. I will certainly be getting a Dunkies medium iced wth turbo later.

This weekend was pretty awesome. Friday night I had a date, and he was awesome and funny and sweet and we had SO much fun. We went to dinner and talked a lot, and then went bowling at a place that was connected to a bar where we hung out afterward. I got home at 2am haha. He is a very good kisser ;)

Saturday sis and I cleaned and sat outside in the sun with a cooler of beers for a bit before I got ready to go out for the night in Boston. My date from the night before said he would be visiting the bar he used to run and would I want him to meet up with me and my friends that night? I was not sure I wanted that to happen, but I went with it and he met everyone I went out with and they all LOVED him. It was for my HS BFF's 29th birthday and her older brother came along - they had a pretty epic bromance going all night. It was adorable, but I also felt a bit like things might be moving a hair too fast for me. I of course brought it to the Council - @Swazzle and @GoldenPenguin have assured me I'm just insane and should have fun and go with it. @Sakalicious and @buddysmom80 are slightly nicer about it but they are of pretty much the same mind :P

Sunday I left my friend's house early enough that I didn't have a parking ticket, which made my DAY. I woke sis up with Dunks and we headed to our mom's to chill out for the day and do laundry. Very solid weekend all around.

@mbross3 YAY! So glad to hear from another person that they're comfy! It's always surprising how many flats are NOT comfortable; isn't that their whole purpose? And I was hoping for as-silvery-as-possible, so that's a plus.

@csousa1 This guy sounds awesome! I moved kind of fast with J ... I guess? We didn't see each other for about a week and a half after our first date, and then two and a half weeks after that, we were in a relationship and I was introducing him to friends as my boyfriend.

And now I want coffee. Powdered cream? NOPES.

@Phira they're awesome! I actually bought them at a doctor's recommendation after a ski race accident (I was fine but my spine was bruised and Earth shoes are actually really good for your back, believe it or not--they're supposed to help with posture!). they're one of my favorite pairs of spring shoes.

BF and I are like almost exactly the same height and I tend to wear wedges or heels and used to get so much flack from really random people about how that makes me taller than him and isn't that sooooo weird and uncomfortable (rolls eyes). Neither of us really care about a few inches in height difference on either side so it's just obnoxious. But when I do wear flats I always get people asking if I do it so that I’m not taller than BF! I’m always like…no it’s because these shoes are so cute/comfortable!

ETA: took that on a random tangent--my bad!
  • @Dignity100. No photos sorrry. I had no one with me to take the photos and I didn't want to take away from the seamstress working on my dress asking her to take pictures.  I can't wait to wear the dress though, once we figured out the crinoline debacle!

@mbross3 TOTALLY the same experience I have with flats. When I started looking at just flats, people started saying, "Oh, that's so you won't be taller than he is?" NOPE. Non-issue. It's because I suck at heels.

Most of the negative reviews I've seen for Earth flats is that people wear them so much, so often, because they're so comfy, that they don't last as long as other shoes.

@phira sorry you're dealing with that too! People can be ridiculous. I have had mine for 2 years (ish, I think) and they're holding up great. Full disclosure- I do live in a part of the country where there is a very limited time each year where it's warm enough to comfortably wear flats!

ETA: I actually had BF's 10 year old niece ask me how I picked out what to wear because any cute shoes would make me taller than BF. It just made me really sad that a 10 year old was thinking about that.
