Monday Chatter

Morning, all! How was your weekend?

Friday, I had off so I decided to have a lazy day. I finally got caught up on all of my shows. I did a little cleaning as well but I was mostly lazy. It was lovely :)

Saturday morning, I spent 2 hours in Old Navy searching for the stupid golden bunny ($100 gift certificate). I didn't find it and it was fucking infuriating. I did buy a bunch of stuff though! When I got home, I hurried and cleaned my apartment before my parents arrived. They brought some of my childhood toys up to store in my basement. I didn't get to look through it all but I did spot some of my old Fear Street books!

I took my parents into NYC to one of my favorite restaurants for a late lunch/early dinner. H met us there when he was done work and It was DELISH! After that, my mom and I went to the mall to find her a dress for a wedding we have in couple weeks. They left late that night.

Yesterday, H was really, really sick. We were supposed to have breakfast with his family but we had to cancel. He slept on and off all day between having to run to the bathroom to get sick :(  I played nurse and started watching House of Cards on Netflix which I'm addicted to now. Does anyone else watch?

Friday we both finished work at 1 pm so we went to the mall, bought crap we weren't planning on buying (but good deals were aplenty).  We were gonna grill out Friday night but we had grabbed a late lunch at the mall so we weren't very hungry later.

Saturday I challenged myself to the art of making flavored butters to take for Easter.  It's not much of a challenge, really, but since we were in charge of bringing the dinner rolls I felt kind of like a loser only bringing store bought rolls (his SIL is kind of a Martha Stewart type, so I always feel the need to up my game).  I made a caramelized onion butter and a toasted almond honey butter.  I was rather pleased and got lots of compliments on them.  We stayed home that evening watching the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team play their second playoff game (and lose).  We ordered in Chinese.

Sunday, woke up early to make a pork roast in the crockpot for my family's Easter lunch, as well as a spinach/cheese quiche.  Went to my parents for lunch, then to his family for dinner.  There was a lot of food at his family's, but frankly,  most of it was just so-so.  There was a magnificent chocolate peanut butter cheesecake, though.

@Swazzle - I've never seen House of Cards but seems like someone recently recommended it to me.  What's it about?

ETA - I just googled it - seems like it has to be good if Kevin Spacey is in it!  I love him!  I need to get Netflix...we keep saying we will.

  • MY OFFICE IS STINKY AGAIN. This is the 3rd day within the past week and a half that it has smelled like sewage. 2 plumbers have been here and failed to find the issue, and the landlord is a jerk and ignores most of our calls. My boss was gone all last week, but he is supposed to be in today. I'm already anticipating that he will walk in, take one breath, and turn right around saying he will work remotely. If that happens I swear I will be following him out the door saying that I too will be working from home until this issue is resolved. This is disgusting.

    Rant over.

Anyways, my weekend was lovely. Friday afternoon we drove upstate to spend the weekend with FI's parents. This was the first time we've seen them since getting engaged. We went out to dinner, along with his sister, on Friday night and they asked all about the wedding planning. They very nicely told us to feel free to look for venues on Long Island (closer to my family, but far from them), so I've started doing so. His parents also gave us some new Etsy inspiration for our shop, and now we're both really motivated to work harder at it. Saturday evening we went to FI's cousin's house, and I met a bunch of relatives I've never met before. Sunday morning I made brunch for everyone, and then we headed home nice and early. All in all, it was a great but too-short weekend!

  • @swazzle I can't wait to hear what else is in that box of childhood dolls. I hope Alf's in there. I haven't watched House of Cards yet, I still have a lot of DVR to catch up on, maybe I'll start watching it today.

@pepperally your flavored butter sounds amazing and the peanut butter cheesecake.....NOM.

Friday I was off, so I got a lot done. I made ST crockpot pork carnitas, they were DELISH. I brought some for lunch today. After that I ran to the store for some last minute groceries. Came home, made a triple batch of guacamole and broke in FI's smoker by putting stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon in there, by the time he came home from work, they were ready and delicious!!!! After dinner we went to our neighbor's house to eat guac, stuffed jalapenos, drink and play CAH. We didn't make it home until almost 1 am, and didn't get to sleep until 2 am.

Saturday we HAD TO WAKE UP AT 5AM (3 hours of sleep, fml) for our engagement photo shoot. I met with the makeup artist and had my hair and makeup done, then we drove to where we had our photo shoot. FI has never been there, and he was wowed by the location. It was a long two hours, I was so tired! We got one preview and at first I hated how I looked, like crying hysterically, but I'm getting a little better. I want to see the other photos though (two weeks)! After the photo shoot, we came home, did some shopping and had a late lunch. We basically drove a big square around the state.

Sunday we slept in a little bit, FI made pork roll, egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast. We marinated some baby back ribs and did some yard work. We put the ribs in the smoker and hung out until we were ready to eat. FI made pasta and a nom-tastic cucumber salad. We celebrated 4/20 appropriately, the smoked ribs were FANTASTIC.

OH I forgot to share this, Saturday we stopped at FMIL's house because she tried to convince us to give her money for rent (that's a whole different story). Anyway, we don't really celebrate Easter, but she gave us an Easter basket that had hard-boiled eggs in it with some other food-related religious stuff that was blessed by a priest or something. I thought they were in a tupperware container, so we just threw it in the back of the car. Later, we go to get froyo and I get back in the car and I go "YOUR CAR SMELLS LIKE A FART, FI!". It was the hard boiled eggs sitting in the back of the car. EW.

  • @swazzle, I've never seen House of Cards, but I keep hearing it's excellent. I will have to check it out!

Friday was good. I worked until 3 and then spent the evening lazing around at home because that's what I do. My mom, brother, and I wound up watching Frozen together. I know there was a UO recently about grown women getting all crazy over this movie, but sorry to say, I loved it! The story was kinda so-so, but I thought it was terrific and adorable. Then the family and I just spent some time together before I went to sleep.

Saturday I worked and did grocery shopping. I was going to get together with a friend later that evening, but she locked her keys in the car and by the time she got them back it was kind of too late to do anything. =/

Sunday I worked AGAIN, then my family got together in the evening for an Easter/my belated birthday dinner. We went out to dinner and then came home and watched some movie my dad brought over. Everyone was in kind of a bad mood, which was awkward and not the most fun, but sometimes that's just how we roll.

I am off of school and work today, which is nice. I'm going to work out with a friend in a little while and then finish getting ready for this week. And my friend's wedding is on Friday, wooooo!

  • Friday - I got home from work and tried to relax a bit.  I started my on-call rotation at 8PM and got SMS'edat around 9:20pm and had no idea how to fix what was broke, thankfully it fixed itself.  I went to bed around 10pm, FI kept me up because he was nervous about his Lasik appointment.  Then I got SMS'ed at 4:30AM and never got to go back to bed, as soon as I was allowed to 'leave' the issue it was time for me to get ready to take FI for Lasik.

Saturday:  Took FI to get Lasik.  Got home just before 3:00pm.  I did some laundry and tried to nap but was unable to fall asleep so I watched a bunch of 'stupid' shows (I don't even remember what I watched because of my zombie-like-state).  Ordered pizza (the food that comes to you) for dinner.  I really don't remember anything after the pizza... probably more 'stupid' TV.  I went to bed around 9:30pm.

Sunday:  Got SMS'ed at 1:20am, 3:30am, and 4:10am.  The 4:10am kept me up until around 6am, so I got to go back to sleep for like an hour before having to get ready to take FI back for his next-day exam.  When we got home, I crashed... got up to get ready to go to FI's parents.  We stopped at Walmart so he could find a pair of sunglasses that weren't as horrible as his post-op ones until he can figure out what he likes.  Went to his parents, ate food, watched Anchorman 2 (got SMS'ed again for work while watching anchorman 2).  When we got home, took the pups for a walk around the block - will have to do that more often, Loki was able to keep up which was my big fear.  At 9:30 I had a customer restart thing, so that took me until like 10:15pm to get everything settled, went to bed at 10:30.

So basically - this weekend sucked and I'm so sleeping and out of it.

  • @pepperally I read your post as you ordered by speaking in Chinese.  That would also be sort of epic :)  H (!!!) doesn't really like Chinese food so we don't have it nearly often enough.

@hummingbird125 Any chance you work in a school?  EHS (environmental health & safety) would be all over that, in theory.  They had a heart attack when I spilled liquid acrylamide all over the lab floor once - I mean, it IS a neurotoxin, but they seriously overreacted (it's more dangerous in its solid form, so it would need to evaporate before posing a major threat.  I still had to go home and shower the stuff off me though.)

@swazzle a sick hubs is no fun - I hope he's better soon!!

Today, I have a job interview.  It's for an in between job, to hold me over until I'm teaching again and I'm hoping it goes well.  I could really use the income and we're looking to buy a house soon so any extra money is good in my book.

Today, I also have to write about 7 zillion thank you cards.  Which will be really fun, obviously.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @Swazzle- We don't watch House of cards yet but H wants to start watching it after we have caught up with GOT. We are almost done with Season 3.

Friday H and I went to Easter service at our old church. It was great to see all of our old friends. Afterwards we went to his parent's house for dinner and they made us this awesome Easter basket. We got some gift cards which I'm going to buy some cute gym clothes since all I wear to the gym are t-shirts.

Saturday H went to do some job training and I cleaned a bit and did some Insanity. Once he got home we went to go look at our potential home which we liked but we weren't crazy about it. We kept searching for a couple more hours and literally found the house we wanted to live in forever! I was obsessed the moment I walked through the door. About 30 minutes later after drooling all over the kitchen, I called the Realtor to find out that the house has already been leased. THEN WHY DID YOU LET US VISIT IT?!?!? My heart was broken and H and I were depressed for the rest of the day. We are visiting another home on Wednesday that looks very nice. Hopefully this will pick up our spirits a bit more.

Sunday we had Easter with my family and mom of course made us all awesome Easter baskets. We played games and played with the puppies for most of the day. I think I'm still full today from all the food I ate yesterday. It was also my little sister's bday so we celebrated her before she left back for college.

I spent the weekend at a wedding in the Texas Hill Country and it was pretty nice. There was no internet or phone reception and the scenery was beautiful so it was great to decompress for a few days. I got to spend time with some dear friends, and the bride was well behaved (although I'm still miffed about having to supply my own gold chain, and then borrow someone else's when the charm wouldn't fit on mine) so it was a good weekend.

    ETA: Happy Monday everyone!

  • @Pepperally - Your butters sound so yummy!  I love Kevin Spacey too. He's really good in it. If you get Netflix, definitely check it out.

@Hummingbird125 - I'm sorry your office is stinky again :(

@buddysmom80 - I can't WAIT for your e-pics! Also, I feel a brunch date is in order for us and @hummingbird125

@CLoGreenEyes - I saw Frozen for the first time @audrewuh's house at the TXG2G and I really loved it too! Haters gonna hate ;)

@Dignity100 - How is your FI doing after the Lasik?

@Blue&White - Good luck at your interview today! Knock 'em dead!

@southernpeach89 - That is so frustrating about the house! I would have been so annoyed. I hope the house you look at on Wednesday is nice!

  • @CLoGreenEyes - I watched Frozen with my parents this weekend.  I really enjoyed the music, but thought they could have played up the villain a little more...  it was NOTHING like old school Disney villains.  they were larger than life!!

@southernpeach89 - sorry about the house, that's so disappointing!  :(

    @Blue & White - welcome back, Mrs.!!!

this weekend was crazy-busy.  I did pretty much everything I needed to do except go by the Farmer's Market to get my seedlings.  we'll go this Saturday.

Friday afternoon I got off work at 2:30.  I went home and H and I did an Insanity work out (my first in a month!!) and I started prepping the dough for hot cross buns.  we got ready and went to our Spanish-speaking group's dinner night out that evening...  they voted for IHOP, so meh.  I got the pot roast dinner, it was alright.  we got home and H and I baked the hot cross buns and finally got in bed around midnight.

Saturday we got up at 7:30 so we could ice the hot cross buns and I could start working on the carrot cake for Easter.  we also did an Insanity work out while the carrot cake was in the oven.  we had to be at the church for an Easter thing by 10:30, so we were definitely rushed for time.  the cake fell apart as I was taking it out of the pan, so instead of flip out I just decided to make it a trifle and put it in one of my glass punch bowls instead of making a new cake.  we got ready and got to the church right on time.  I gave away most of my hot cross buns (the recipe was supposed to make like 18, but instead made 35 or 36!!) and it seemed everyone really liked them, especially with coffee.

H and I had some visitations to do, so we took care of that and then ran to Pei Wei for lunch.  my mom had given us a gift card at Valentine's.  I got the Orange Peel Chicken with extra veggies, and I had to fight H off my plate!  we ran by Cheesecake Factory to pick up some red velvet cheesecake for my friend I was visiting that night, Sprouts to get some mangoes (50 cents each!), Walgreens for a coloring book/crayons (for my friend's son), and Homeland for ricotta cheese.

I think we got home around 2:30 or 3:00.  I started working on making some frozen lasagnas and then some taco soup and corn bread.  around 5:00, H had to go "bless a house" (one of our Hispanic families wanted him to come bless/pray for their house because he is our Spanish pastor) and I went to go visit my friend who had a baby on Thursday.  H stopped by afterwards and we stayed a couple hours, visiting and eating taco soup and cheesecake.

that evening, H played basketball with a bunch of guys and I watched Frozen over at my parents' house.

Sunday was crazy.  we had morning church, and H did live translation into Spanish from the pulpit.  he was tired afterwards!  we had Easter lunch with my fam...  home smoked brisket, honey-baked ham, PW's green beans, asparagus, cheesy potatoes (thanks Mom!), Asian cabbage salad, rolls, and my carrot cake trifle.  I was stuffed for the rest of the day.

I got in a nice nap yesterday and then we had service and communion that evening.

I am so ready for tonight...  get some rest, and then back to all the busy-ness this week with my kids' piano recital on Thursday.

@Dignity100, yikes, just reading about your weekend makes me sleepy! How does your FI like Lasik so far?

@Blue, good luck on your interview and thank you cards! CONGRATS AGAIN!

@southernpeach89, that would make me soooooo mad! I hate it when they taunt you with things you can't have. You will find a great house, though - hopefully Wednesday's will be lovely!

ETA; @CocoBellaF, I know, I felt the same way about it. We didn't even really know who the villain was for like half the story, which kinda bugged me. BUT, the music was catchy and I loved the characters, and it just made me happy, so I'll forgive myself for having the cinematic taste of a six-year-old. ;)

  • @Swazzle & @CLoGreenEyes - He's still a little unsure about it.  It seems like his surgery went a lot like mine (I think our eyes were pretty similar before - I could wear his glasses and see pretty well, not perfect, but pretty close).  Day 1 he left and everything was pretty blurry because his eyes were all watery and medicated.  Day 2 everything was SUPER BRIGHT but he could see.  I'm not sure if both his eyes are at 20/20 yet but at least together they are.  He's been kind of a big baby with it, but I expected that.  I think he'll like it when his eyes are a bit more healed.

@Blue & White Good luck on your interview? How was your week? Did you have a good trip?

@Hummingbird125 That's horrible!! I seriously hope your boss smells the sewage and calls whoever the landlord is to get out there and actually fix it this time. That's so gross.

@Dignity100 How is your FI doing after LASIK? I want my FI to get LASIK but he's terrified he'll end up blind and he's completely irrational about it.

My weekend was pretty boring. Friday night we stayed in and insulated the storage room in our garage and then FI reorganized it and cleaned.

Saturday was sort of more of the same. I ran some errands and FI went to the dump with a co-worker who offered to let us borrow his truck so we hauled away a bunch of old rotting wood from a partial section of our fence that we tore down. When I got back I helped FI replace some really dated glass sconces in our hallway with some more traditional (and brighter!) overhead lights in our hallway and in our garage foyer. I also want to replace the lights in our kitchen dining area and our main foyer but the lights I want to buy are like $80 a piece so I'm holding off for now.

Sunday we woke up early and went to my parent's house to celebrate Easter and my little sister's 22nd birthday. I cooked a ton and my strawberry pie came out pretty good. I overcooked the crust though so it was tough to cut through...oops. I'm also really excited because FI texted one of his old friends to get his address so we can invite him to the wedding and he invited us to his in Seattle in September! It's nearly a month before ours but we're going to make an effort to go anyway because SEATTLE! YAY! He sent us their wedding website which he developed himself so it's of course way more cool and funny and witty than ours and now I'm embarrassed to share ours with him since I just used a template off of WW.

  • @swazzle never watched House of Cards, I heard it was good though.  I hope H is feeling better

@Blue Good luck on the interview today!

@500days the dresses are so pretty I like the last one the best on you!

On Friday FI & I applied for our marriage license.  Then I dropped off the vases at our florist.  I spent the rest of the day cleaning and trying to come up with song recap idea or our wedding video.  We also finished catching up on Game of Thrones.  Saturday FI & I slept in a bit then we ran a whole bunch of errands, we also planted a tree and did some cleaning of our yard and went to church.  We ordered some pretty good chinese food too!

Sunday we went out with my parents for brunch and then went over to FI's family for brunch.  It was good to see everyone and hang out and relax.  It was nice to have a bit of a longer weekend.  I feel exhausted though, and after work I have to go to the mall to return a bathing suit top and start looking for BM gifts too.

  • @Peaseblossom55 - Did you guys decide on a song?

  • @Swazzle we we kind of sort chose a song.  The problem is they aren't long enough so Chris is going to try to talk to a friend at work to see if he can lengthen the song by repeating a verse or the intro or something the two songs that are in our top choices are Lucky by Jason Mraz and Come to Me by the Goo Goo Dolls. So we'll see.

  • Morning ladies.  This weekend was great.  H was in town with our dog so we hung out, did some shopping (I don't have a car here), slept in a lot, went out to dinner Saturday night and brunch Sunday afternoon.  I ate entirely too much and now I'm sad it is Monday and I don't get to see H or the dog until Wednesday night.  Being away from your spouse/SO sucks.  :(

@500days - That third dress is really beautiful.

@Buddysmom80 - Share your pics when you get them in?  I'm sure you looked stunning.

@Swazzle, this is the first I've heard of Old Navy's golden bunny.. how did that work???  It's probably a good thing I missed it, because Old Navy tends to take my money somehow.

@Dignity100 I want lasik sooo bad!!! I have to laugh at your comment about him being a baby and you expected it... I always know if I get sick and then my bf gets it that it's always 'so much worse' for him :)

@southernpeach89 sorry about the house :(  That's so devastating.. I hope it works out on Wednesday!

My weekend was pretty great, we had to celebrate Easter a day early at my bf's family, so we had a delicious dinner on Saturday and yesterday we did brunch and a day at the zoo.  It was finally spring here in Minnesota yesterday so I was in such a lovely mood all day since I got a hefty dose of Vitamin D. :)

  • @swazzle, House of Cards is amazing! I've only seen the first season and the British miniseries - better prioritize the second season, huh?

Today sucks already due to severe oversleeping.

Friday FI and I worked on packing and cleaning at my apartment. Most of the contents of the living room are in boxes, and I got a start on the bedroom desk. So much yet to do ... and in the evening we went to gaming at a friend's apartment. Until 4 a.m. I'm so not cut out for that anymore, next time it gets to be 1-2 a.m. and we're still out I'm taking the keys and going home.

Saturday we recovered from Friday night and worked on cleaning and packing at his apartment. Mostly cleaning. He has a metric fuckton of useless shit and garbage laying around, so it's a pretty selective pack. Nothing he wouldn't or shouldn't do himself, though. We also talked budget with my parents. So far they're looking at paying for a helpful share of the wedding with the possibility of paying more. I just hope they let me retain some measure of control of the planning process. I don't fully trust this because it's not like them to give me money, not really.

Yesterday was Easter dinner at my parents' place. My dad made the mother of all hams (it had to weigh 20 lbs). My mom ran out of cornstarch for raisin sauce, and I didn't have the heart to tell her flour and water thickening didn't taste the same. And I fell down two stairs and ended up with a giant welt on my right shoulder. My heel caught the edge of a step and down I went - I think my shoulder hit the banister and my wrist hit the floor, but I'm not sure.
  • @keptinstitches moving sucks! I'm sorry :-( great news talking to your parents though!

@peaseblossom55 lucky is a really pretty song!

Just found out that I'm heading out to breakfast in a bit. I love surprise breakfasts! I really hope the rest of the day goes this well.
  • @500days I'm loving the third dress too!

@southernpeach89 that is such a bummer, but I hope you find a place you love.

  • @BreMR - It wasn't very organized at first. I was (embarrassingly) the first customer in the store and they handed me a paper with some clues and different colored bunnies on it. I found all 5 of them throughout the store but they failed to mention that the actual golden bunny wasn't listed on the paper at all.

@KeptInStitches - I think I'm about 5 episodes in right now. I wish I could watch at work!

@Swazzle I've been wanting to start watching that, it is DEAD at work today so maybe I'll start now! I'm also still mad for you about the friggin bunny.

@buddysmom80 I thought you looked so gorgeous!!! I can't wait to see more!

I am one of two people sitting in my office today. It's Marathon Monday so I will be following that all day and twiddling my thumbs because it will likely be slow all day. I'll probably finish my book and start House of Cards on Netflix.

I can't decide whether or not to keep my plans with this guy tonight - the shit kinda hit the fan with my family yesterday and now my sister is no longer going out tonight, so our original plan to make dinner at my house won't be happening. I'm not entirely sure I'm up for anything, but I also feel like I owe it to myself to see this guy one more time before I decide whether this will be worth fitting into my schedule regularly over the next several insane weeks of my life.

Mostly I am just feeling kinda blah today, suffering from a slight case of the Mondays I guess!

  • New reason today sucks: my bra strap and band both lie right on my shoulder welt. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
