Changing your name?

Re: Changing your name?

  • Keeping it. I absolutely hate the whole tradition. My mom kept hers and hyphenated us, and that's part of the reason I want to do it. If all the women I had known growing up changed their names, I might have grown up feeling like I had to. I can't imagine marrying someone who insisted I change my name.
  • Oh, I guess I should also note that I don't really care if my kids share my last name, and I already know I'm not hyphenating any. It's cruel enough (on a spelling basis) to send them into the world with the German last name. I'm not sending them out with Scandinavian-German.
  • Thanks for everyone's replies! It made me feel more at ease for not having a "real" reason to not want to change my name other than laziness and just because.... I don't feel like it! Luckily FI doesn't care but said "you may end up being called mrs. HisLastName socially, I hope that won't bother you..." Thought that was cute. Still something to think about! Added sorry to bring an old thread back up, worked alllll weekend (nights) so I'm just catching up on all the posts since Friday!

  • Late to this party, but....

Leading up to my wedding, I wasn't sure. On our honeymoon, I decided to change my name. I dropped my given middle name, and moved my maiden name to my middle name. So instead of "Jane S. Chipmunk" I'm now "Jane C. Eagle." Ive gotten some of the major changes done, but still have to finish some others. The good thing is since my maiden is still part of my name, there isn't a problem yet in getting mail and the like.
