Wedding Dress Issues...

Hello, everyone! I've been looking for a wedding dress and have visited a few different bridal stores near my location (David's Bridal, White Lace and Promises, Alfred Angelo Bridal). I received the best service at Alfred Angelo's, so I returned there. On my first visit there, I tried on about five dresses. I went Friday, again, and tried on nine more - including two from the previous time (One was my favorite from the previous visit, and I decided to give the other one another try.). I've narrowed it down a lot from what I did have on my list (Originally, seventy-eight dresses. I like to make lists...). There are two - possibly four - that I am considering, now.

Style 869 - The original favorite from the first appointment. I wasn't a fan of it when I saw it in the garment bag but adored it, once it was on me. It's an A-line, I think. With the skirt thing (Sorry; I'm not sure what it's called!), it has more shape on the bottom. http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/Bridal-Collection/869/?pg=0
"Juliet" - It's mainly lace, like 869, but it has more draping and a more defined "pouf" at the bottom. I believe, this style would be a trumpet gown. http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/Bridal-Collection/2396
"Jasmine" - This one is very different from the others; this is the dress that the woman I'm working with actually chose for her wedding. It's a lovely dress. It would probably be classified as a dropped asymmetrical waist ball gown; it has an organza skirt. To me, it seems more "bridal", because of all of the "poufiness". http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/Disney-Fairy-Tale-Bridal/215
"Ariel" - I'm considering keeping this one on the list, because the bodice is so lovely! I'm not a huge fan of the train, because of the slight bump in the back, but it's a beautiful gown, and a bride behind me chose this style for her wedding (It was pretty obvious; she stayed in it for, like, thirty minutes! :) ). Obviously, it's a mermaid gown, which isn't my favorite style, but it's still nice. http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/Disney-Fairy-Tale-Bridal/201

There is only one gown on the list - "Jasmine" - that is what I envisioned as my wedding dress - ball gown style (Although I'm a fan of trumpet gowns, as well, I like the classic, traditional look of a ball gown.). I don't know if I should keep looking and trying on different dresses. The first two dresses nearly made me cry, but they aren't the ball gown that I had envisioned... I'm a very traditional person and just want to make sure that I pick the right dress. Unlike a lot of people, I never planned my wedding as a child. I recently decided - thanks to an incredible man - that I would like to be married. I just want everything to be perfect! What do you all think? Do you have any advice or a favorite of the four dresses?

Thank you, and God bless you all! :)

If the first two almost made you cry, then maybe one of those are 'the one' or at least that is the style you prefer in your heart.  IMO, a lace dress, such as Juliet or Style 869, is more traditional than the Jasmine ballgown.

That does make sense; I have kind of felt like the ball gown styles generally overwhelm my figure. I am very thin and petite, and I don't want to look like a cupcake, if you know what I mean... Originally, I didn't think I'd like lace dresses. The first one I tried on was 869, and I love them, now. I do think that they look traditional. I suppose, it's just my vision of "bridal". For me, when I think "wedding dress", I think "pouf" and volume, and that equates with ball gowns. Oddly enough, I tried on a ball gown with a lace bodice, and I wasn't crazy about it.

It sounds like you really like the first two, and are trying to convince yourself on the Jasmine because it's what you thought you should like.

Go with what you actually like. Not what you think you should like.

I love the first two dresses personally. But you need to go with what you like best :) Do what feels right to you.

Most brides choose a very different dress than they imagined.  My daughter did!  Go with what makes you feel beautiful, not with some pre-conceived notion of what you ought to wear.

PS.  I like the first one.  I wouldn't wear a dress  designed and named after a Disney cartoon princess.  Weddings are for grownups.  JMHO.

I vote for the first dress. I love Alines.

I like the first dress best, definitely. If you want more volume, you could see what the alterations ladies would think of adding a little more tulle underneath, or you could wear it with a chapel veil for some more drama (only if the back isn't detailed). Really though, go with what you felt not with what you thought.

And mermaid gowns are fun, but IMHO they're going to look dated in 10 or 20 years. I have seen enough 80's wedding photos to be very leery of going with anything too trendy!

All wedding gowns will look dated at some point.  There is zero way to get around this.  So a bride should choose a dress that she loves today, not something that may not look dated 20 years down the road.

I like the Juliet and the Jasmine dress the best.  The Jasmine dress made my short list.  From what you're saying, I think the Juliet might be a better choice for you.

You all are right; thank you for all of the input! Honestly, I do prefer the first two dresses to the other two. I was thinking about it today, and I am leaning toward the "Juliet" dress. It has sparkle and structure, as well as a little "pouf". I am still considering 869, though, but it would have to be worn with the tulle skirt undergarment, as it doesn't have much shape on the bottom without it. It's hard to tell in the picture - in my opinion - but there is a nice swirl-like design on the "Juliet", and there is a little seam down the side of the bottom so that the draping isn't a little odd. It's kind of hard to describe, but it's really pretty.

I like the first one and the jasmine the best.... I'm partial to the Disney line though (mine is the Rapunzel 221). Personally, I don't like an overabundance of "sparkle" but if the first two made you cry then you have your answer right there. Sometimes you have to let go of the dress you always envisioned. I always thought I would go with a big ball gown but ended up loving something totally different! Follow your gut, you'll only regret it if you don't.

if you are still unsure about these dresses can you make an apt someplace else that might carry the ballgown look you envisioned so you can see how you will look and then decide if you still want to buy from AA

i tried on a lot of dresses  i did the traditional bridal salons although i ran into db once and was only able to try on one gown as none of the other ones were avail in the stores.

i went to a bridal consignment nothing fit in my bridal size

i went to a store that specialized in plus sizes but they also had regular sizes  tried on over 15 gowns narrowed it down to 2

i went to another store that carried plus and regular but the plus gowns were very few and they did not get my vision

go with what you feel in your gut if you are still unsure go someplace else and if you still cant get that dress out of your head go back to aa and purchase it

I took my mother with me to another appointment to try on my favorite dresses. I ended up going with the "Juliet" dress! :)

The 869 dress was beautiful, but we all agreed that the "Juliet" was best for me, as it was made for showing off a thin figure (lots of beautiful asymmetrical draping around the waist). The consultant suggested a cathedral length veil, and I loved it!

When I put on the dress, I saw myself in a mirror across the room, and I actually thought "I want to try on the dress that mannequin is wearing!!!"... And I realized it was me. Lol. This dress made me feel the best, and I didn't want to take it off! :)

Thank you all for your input! I really feel like I chose the right dress.
