NWR... Starbucks rant.

Re: NWR... Starbucks rant.

  • Also a former Starbucks barista. This situation seems like she was just trying to let you know the correct size of the drink, but just said it in the wrong way and tone.

And I think other PP's mentioned but Starbucks originally just had the short and tall sizes. Added grande as their large later one. Now the Venti (20 ounces) and Trenta (30 ounces) have been added.

Not that big a fan of Starbucks. Honestly, I don't consider them coffee...more like coffee-flavored beverages. I think it was rude of her though. Most people go by the "small, medium, and large" scale regardless of their hipster word-replacements because it's standard and easy for people to remember.

Found this gif and thought it was funny and relevant so posting this too:

Yes!  I was just thinking of this scene while reading the post.  He points out that the other two sizes (Tall and Grande) mean large in two different languages, but that the size that is actually a large doesn't mean large, it means twenty in Italian.

  •        The educating remark was rude. When I have gone to Starbucks if I say medium they don't usually question it and I end up with a Grande.

I would however, appreciate her telling me the name of the drink I ordered, especially after she had to work with you to figure out what you wanted. I'd want to know what to call it in case I wanted to order it again in the future.

I was into their Vanilla Creme's for a while. It's a vanilla steamer (milk and vanilla syrup). It used to be on their menu. It's not on there now but you can still order it. Some stores if I ask for a Vanilla Creme they look at me funny until I describe it, then they go "Oh, you mean a vanilla steamer!". Other stores I'll order a Vanilla Steamer, then when I have to describe it they go "Oh, you mean a Vanilla creme". Now I just ask for a steamed milk with a shot of vanilla syrup and let them call it what they want!

Is it wrong that I'm not a huge fan of Starbucks? Now I will admit, they make the best Caramel Mocha in town but I only drink those a few times a year. 99% of the time I just have a small black coffee and Starbucks simply doesn't have the best coffee in town. We have a local coffee shop that is cheaper and closer to my office and has better coffee.
@blueeyes90 And a win for small businesses! Yay!

Also, I hate coffee. (I think I'm the only person on the planet who hates it.)
You're not the only one. I absolutely hate coffee or anything that has any kind of a coffee flavor in it.

Since I don't drink coffee I don't go to Starbucks so I had no idea what their sizes were called. I just want to say that it seems like they intentionally make this difficult so no need to be snarky when a customer calls it the wrong name.

  • As a former Coldstone employee, I can certainly attest to how annoying it is to be forced to say dumb words for sizes (at Coldstone it's "like it," "love it," and "gotta have it.") I would never correct customers, but I would have to use those dumb-ass terms. Future restaurant entrepreneurs, please just use "small," "medium," and "large."
  • I would be tempted to respond with "Well would you please educate me regarding WHY THE FUCK all of your drink sizes mean BIG, except for your large?  Tall, BIG.  Grande, BIG IN SPANISH,  Venti, which should mean BIG, means 20 OUNCES IN ITALIAN.  The fuck Starbucks, seriously?  Why do you need three different languages, is one not pretentious enough?  And why is only your 20 oz size named after how many ounces it contains, and not your other sizes?  What even."

I personally refuse to use tall grande or venti when ordering there because that shit just makes no sense whatsoever.  Big, big, 20 ounces, in three languages, wtf.  You're a damn coffee store.  Cut the pretentious crap.  I find it nuts that apparently some employees are trained to correct you.  "Uh oh, I didn't say the drink size in spanish, guess I'm not special enough to be here."
