Plus-Sized Bridesmaids

I will only have my MOH & 1 BM, however both are plus sized. The MOH is a bit larger in the stomach, and has mentioned that certain waistlines make her look pregnant. My BM is quite gifted up top, and also larger around the stomach area. Ideally I wanted them in tea length dresses because I feel that is less formal, which is the look I'm going for. We are probably going with either David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo as those are the most convenient places where we live. Any suggestions as to specific styles, material, etc that would flatter these 2 beautiful ladies?!

They will know what looks have worked well on them in the past. Let them choose. Consider even different styles so that each will look her best.

I suggest not having tea length dresses, as they're unflattering on many (in my opinion most) people. Knee length is more flattering.

I would suggest picking a color and material (possibly have them go with you to get their input) and then let them find a style that they feel most comfortable in.

I'd choose either long or short. As much as I adore tea length dresses, they aren't very flattering.

Have you considered selecting a color & fabric and letting them wear different dresses? That way they can choose something they feel comfortable in that flatters each of them.

Knee length is a flattering length for most women. Tea length can "cut off" one's legs and make them look stout. I have a larger bust like your BM, and I usually avoid things that are low cut (unless I can layer), strapless clothes, and spaghetti straps. A-line skirts are universally flattering. An empire waist or a waist that is tighter at the smallest part of the torso then flows away is also flattering for most women. Clingy fabric would probably not work.

I would go with a knee length chiffon dress, and let them pick the style. Tea length is very unflattering for most shapes and sizes.

My MOH and bridesmaid are both plus size. When we went dress shopping for them, they each picked out several dresses that came in the appropriate color. BM (big all around) chose this dress, and it actually looked pretty flattering on her, better than any of the long ones she tried on. I'm a sucker for tea length dresses (mine is tea length) so I was pretty excited that she liked it.

I agree that you should just pick a color and length Nd let them pick. They don't need to be in the same dress

I agree with QF. I think your best bet is to just pick a color and length. For my wedding, I just picked a color and let everyone choose their own dress. All my BMs who ranged from age 8 to 37 looked great and were comfortable in their dresses. It really helped when my best friend forgot the dress she originally ordered at her house which is about 8 hour drive from where we had the wedding, and she was able to go to DB the night before the wedding and get something off the rack. My girls also ranged in size and my MOH was 7 months pregnant. It was the least stressful option on me.

I have one plus sized bridesmaid, and all three of them have totally different body types. I picked a color and let them each pick the dress they wanted on that color. That way they got dresses they liked that were in their individual budgets.

My plus sized bridesmaid ended up going with a simple tea length satin dress with wide straps at the shoulders. I was actually kind of surprized that she didn't get a long dress because she is super self conscious about wearing shorter dresses. But she loves it. So I will have one bridesmaid in a tea length dress, one in a short dress, and one in a floor length one. But they will all be happy.

(Extra bonus - bridesmaid with floor length dress is in another wedding later this year. Bride from that wedding came with her when she picked up her dress. She liked it so much she decided to use that dress in the same color for her wedding, so my friend only has to buy one dress for two weddings.)

Many pp's have good advice. Also, Alfred Angelo has a good variety of A-line or empire waist bridesmaid gowns that can be ordered in any colour, as well as long or short. Check out their website and get your girls to do the same and see if there is something on there you all like.

I have 1 very petite bridesmaid (size zero) one I'd consider average size, and 3 plus size bridesmaids. It would have been a nightmare finding a dress that flattered all 5 of them. Plus what I think is flattering may not be comfortable to them. I chose the color and length and am letting them have at it. That's what I'd recommend to anyone, that way your girls can feel as good as you do on your day.
