"Dear Daughter, I know I wasn't there for the first 26 years but from
today on, I will be there for you and I am proud to be your Dad. Love,
Dad (legally)"
My bio-dad has never been involved in my life. Four years ago, my mom met a guy and fell head over heels for him. After the first time I met him, I told her, "you picked me a good dad. Keep him." They have been married for just shy of 2 years now.
It was very important to him to legally adopt me. I started calling him Dad after they were married, and he "knew" I was his daughter very early on. He really wanted to do the paperwork, so took me on a lunch date last fall to ask my permission to adopt me. I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world!
So as of today, that paperwork has been signed by a judge, and I will shortly be receiving a new birth certificate that has his name on it. I couldn't possibly be happier!
