Favorite Wine

It appears to me that there are many wine drinkers on this board, so what is your favorite kind of wine?

I like Rieslings and White Zin.

My all time favorite was/is Pink Truck (not a riesling), but I can't find it any more :(

Re: Favorite Wine

  • I like a white wine called Chenin Blanc, but I can't figure out which brand to buy.  I always love it in restaurants but when I've bought a bottle from the store it always seems to not taste as good.

For red, I like Pinot Noir.

  • Cabernet Sauvignon is my favorite (the bolder the better), but I'll pretty much drink anything ;)

Favorite labels for any type? The Crusher, Orin Swift, Stags Leap, B-side, Franciscan, Clos du Val...

  • I drink Red Wine the most, usually Pinot Noir even though my MIL has me drinking Cab a lot lately.

As for White Wine I like Pinot Grigio.

For Brands I've always enjoyed drinking Apothic Red for Pinot Noir. I'm really not very particular on the brands though.

Riesling and Pinot Grigio. Basically, anything very sweet and not too acidic/fruity.

I like red wine.  My favorite is by a local winery called Oliver Winery.  They have a soft red wine and a rose wine that I LOVE. I also love ice wine. I don't care for dry wine so as long they are sweet I will drink them.

  • Oh god, no one likes my favorite!  But that's because I'm weird and like chardonnay the most for white.  and cabernet sauvignon for red.

It should be known that because my dad is a wino, I knew how to spell most of these wine names AND what they should taste like before I was even 18.  I wasn't drinking them - it was more of an academic knowledge from hanging out with my dad too much lol

  • Unoaked chardonnay or moscato. I don't care for red wine at all.
  • @Blue & White - I like chardonnay...I usually order that because most places don't have the chenin blanc.

I don't care for super sweet wines most of the time. Sometimes FI and I enjoy a glass of port but that's about it.

Favorite red varieties (I prefer red wine over white): syrah/shiraz, petit syrah, red blends that are spicy/bold, some cabernets, red burgundy

Favorite white varieties: chenin blanc, chardonnay, pinot gris

Favorite brands: Who am I kidding...I drink all of them. But I most like Molly Dooker, bottles with the word Vouvray on them, Cupcake Red Velvet, Apothic Red, a whole bunch of others I can't think of the name to. I just shop at Total Wine and pick rando stuff most of the time.

  • I've got the pallet of a 5 year old, so I like the light fruity sweet wines.  There's a local place that has a 'Strawberry Blonde' that is pretty amazing.

  • @buddysmom80 Juice boxes!!!!!

I like a good cabernet sauvignon I mostly prefer reds.

I also love moscato and riesling too when I go for white wine, especially during the summer.  Not sure why about that.  We actually asked our wedding venue to stock moscato I know it's a favorite with my family and some of my friends.

  • Lately I've been buying Barefoot Pino Grigio or Barefoot Sauvignon Blac. I don't like reds, except for Red Cat, a semi-sweet chilled red wine from the Finger Lake's area - we buy some whenever we're upstate visiting FI's parents, and last time we were there they sent us home with a BAG of it. I had my own personal wine dispenser for a few days - it was awesome.

Moscato!! Once I tried that I basically stopped liking all other wine.  And I'll drink whatever, but the only red I've really liked is this ridiculous, cheap wine that tastes like juice called Jam Jar.  I'm a sucker for the packaging too. Definitely 5 years old here :)

Have you seen the documentary Somm? It's about a group of people attempting to pass the Master Sommelier Exam, which apparently has one of the lowest pass rates in the world. Fascinating!

  • I will have to try this Moscato that has been talked about in this thread.

  • @Dignity100 I really like the Moscato that Barefoot makes, and they have white, pink, and even a red Moscato! All 3 are delicious in my opinion.

@Hummingbird125 I love Finger Lakes wines! Red Cat is good, but Bully Hill Banty Red is one of my all time favorites, and I can't get it in California :(. Everytime I fly back to NY to visit family I make sure to buy a few bottles of it.

I love Moscato, some Rieslings and unoaky Chardonnays, and very sweet red wines. The only sweet red that I have found here on the West Coast that I like is Casa Rossa at Trader Joe's. And it's only $6.99 a bottle, which is really awesome.

  • @dignity100 Moscato is definitely worth a try!

  • I'm in a white wine phase. I go back & forth. My favorite go-to right now is Barefoot Moscato. It's cheap, and so delicious. I also like the Yellowtail Moscato - it's a little bubblier. I also adore the Relax Riesling.

For reds, I love shiraz, or fruitier mixes.

I also LOVE the Finger Lakes. I went there for a friend's bachelorette, and we went to a couple awesome wineries. I loved Three Brothers, and Penguin Bay. One of my all-time favorites is Bully Hill's Love My Goat - it's a sweet table wine, and it's DELICIOUS.

I also forgot to mention that any red wine that is made with concord grapes tastes like drinking Welch's grape juice to me.  I can drink that faster than water so I don't buy it too often.  I think those grapes are mainly grown north from where I live so it's very accessible with the local wines...up near Lake Erie, etc.

I'm also intrigued by this Moscato you speak of...I've seen it a lot, just wasn't sure what it was like.  Is it mainly a sweet white?  I prefer sweet vs. dry whites.  I'm getting the impression it's on the sweet side?

  • @Pepperally - I'm in the 'Lake Erie' region too... Cleveland/Northeast Ohio area to be more exact.  If you don't mind my asking, where are you located?

  • @pepperally, Moscato is a very sweet dessert type wine. Usually white, but looks like I'm going to have to try this red moscato someone else mentioned!

Other than that, I'm a Schmittsohne Riesling girl :)

  • @Dignity100 - I'm south of the Lake Erie region in Pittsburgh.  I went to undergrad up near Erie, though.

  • I am also a fan of the Barefoot Moscato. Riesling is my next go to. I'm not huge into wine but I've been trying to get into it a little more as my parents are huge winos.

  • I'm definitely trying this Moscato everyone is raving about...this weekend...come on 5 o'clock
  • I am definitely more of a red wine drinker than white. If I do a white it's generally a blend of white grapes sans the Chardonnay and it MUST be aged in stainless steel. no oak for this girl. For reds I am in LOVE with a big bad old vine Zin (at least 100 years please), a spicy Tempranillo or a big juicy Barbara. I like to try some of the things at the store but we have a few faves from back home in N. CA that you can only get from the winery. We are club members at a place called Driven Cellars. I love Kilnker Brick from Lodi and pretty much anything from Duckhorn or their Decoy label is fantastic.

Ohh, do love Duckhorn! Our local liquor store had a price mix-up once and had the cabs listed at 20 bucks and they honored the price. Needless to say, we stalked up ;)

I actually really didn't love the Barefoot red moscato. It was okay, but I like the regular one better.

@pepperally - moscato is sweet, and usually a little "bubbly." Not like, champagne bubbly, but it's got a little sparkle to it. Yellowtail is bubblier than Barefoot, in my opinion (if you're going for the cheap stuff, which I usually do, haha)
