Out of state bridal shower?

  It would be nice if they were invited, but they should not be expected to attend.

  If you and your FMIL would like them to be invited, they should be invited. They are, however, not obligated to attend for any reason and should be afforded the opportunity to RSVP yes or no like any other guest.

  I'd go with a courtesy invitation in this situation, with the understanding that they might not travel. We did this with my MIL who lives OOT, but obviously wanted her to feel thought of/included in the bridal shower.
