Your warm fuzzies for the day-- City Hall weddings!

I loved this slideshow of NYC City Hall weddings.  Everyone looks happy, gorgeous, and in love.

Seeing pictures like this almost makes me want to forgo a "classic" ceremony and opt for one at City Hall! They're just so simple and lovely and have their own sort of glamour to them. I love the idea of "yea, we're in love. So what? We don't need your lavish party to prove it!" It's just so…cool.

I wish my partner had been on board with a city hall wedding! Although Boston's city hall is, no joke, one of the ugliest buildings in the world.

Dude, seriously, me and you should just marry each other. We can wear non-white dresses, walk down the aisle together, you can see me in my dress before the wedding, we can go to city hall...
  • City Hall weddings, at least here in NYC, are just so damn chic.  It's beautiful, full of happy couples, and everyone's so stylish.

Fi often says he's tempted to just elope or go to the courthouse.  But then we'd have to enter Witness Protection because his huge Italian family would never forgive us.

  • They really are chic (Big and Carrie, anyone?), and lovely. 2 of my cousins had City Hall weddings and they were awesome.

Those are beautiful! I've got something in my eye though...
  • Our city hall is so pretty, I'd love to be able to get married there.

I love city hall weddings. They're always so simple and romantic. Just has that vibe of "we love each other so much we have to do this right this second".
  • The city hall in my town is ugly as shit. I did, at one point, ask DH to consider just going to the church one random day and having the ceremony with our priest.

Are her nails done? Did you use her full name? Get parental permission? Is there a photographer? Are you on one knee? Otherwise it doesn't count and she needs a do over!
Well, this obviously isn't our REAL wedding. That'll be later.

  • Omg @phira, I am so surprised! I never expected it to happen like this! It's all so sudden! And we seriously need BBQ and burgers at the reception, because yum. Oh and a milkshake machine of' who'. (that's supposed to be "fo' sho' ", but autocorrect obviously had a better idea, and I thought it was too funny to re-auto-correct).
  • I really, REALLY wish I had been able to convince FI to just elope, but he really wants the whole family and friends, pageantry thing. Maybe if I'd seen these pictures earlier in our engagement... Although our Home Affairs office is probably really ugly, like all the other Home Affairs offices in SA. :(

  • I love how absolutely happy everyone is!!  You can tell they just had the best day of their lives! :D

My FI has asked to go to the courthouse on several occasions (when we are neck deep in wedding plans) and then said, we can just have our wedding on the day we are planning everything.  I had to explain to him that it would no longer be a wedding, but a PPD.  And think about how upset everyone would be to show up to a PPD and not our actual wedding day, plus its crazy rude to do that.  He finally stopped bringing it up once he realized I really was serious about how terrible and rude that would be. :)

This makes me tempted to have our big wedding be "just the official part" and then have a (anti?)PPD at the courthouse. ha. Can you do that?

  • This is exactly what we are planning on doing. We are planning to invite parents, siblings, and grandparents only. I do worry that some in my huge family will be offended though. But honestly, it's about marrying him. Not throwing a lavish party for family members to get drunk at.
