Unsure of Wedding pics

We just got our wedding pictures back in preview form and we're not thrilled.   We loved the portfolio of the photographer and paid a pretty penny for her work.    We weren't able to do an engagement shoot first as the it was a destination wedding.
We did get some good pictures so it's not a total waste but there are a lot of the poses where all the shots are blury and can't be used for anything more than a 4x6.  Unfortunately these were the shots we were most excited about (shot in a train station).  Some of the poses she put us in were not very flattering and look very awkward.   In our family pictures there is a huge light halo in them.    We paid for the digitals negatives so we can edit the photos ourselves but we can't work with blury, light halos or bad composition.
Is this common to not be able use a lot of the shots?

It is not common to receive a disk of unedited, poor quality photos, imo.

I would contact your photographer and let her know of your unhappiness.

It is not common to receive sub-par photos from a good photographer.
From a professional perspective, all images that you receive should be of good quality.

Are they "preview" images or the final product?
Some programs give previews in a reduced file size & quality.

Nevertheless, be sure to communicate your feelings.
    Good luck!

I emailed them asking if it was the preview that made them seem blury and I haven't heard back.  If they were all blury I would think it was preview version.   They said they already went through a round of editing.

Do the photographers normally help you with how to pose?

Depends, some photographers help you with posing more than others.  If you loved that your photographer had a photojournalistic style then they may not help you as much with posing.

You can fix blurry to a point, but I don't know how blurry your images are.  Is there somewhere online they can be viewed?

I know someone who does editing for local photographers, she may be able to do something with them if you are interested. (I doubt she would charge) her email is trpdnabx at me dot com

My photographer was awesome (Boroi Photography.com). Amanda (1 of the photographers) tried a ton of amazing shots, but also asked me what I wanted up front and then filled in the blanks later. She did mention that she has known other brides to go with alternate photographers, and then return after their wedding. She has done wedding photography "after the fact" like do-overs. I would ask her if i were you. Her email is amanda@boroiphotography.com. Hope this helps!
