  I went through a really bad divorce after my first marriage. I ended up filing for BK in the end and signing away everything to him in the end just to get out. This time around will be a little different. Do I love my Fi? Yes. DoI trust him? Yes without question. Do I have a savings account in my name only that only I have access to in the event of an emergency? You bet your sweet butt I do!!!! I will never be caught without money or a place to live again. One friend told me I was jaded, I told them that I was just a realist.

  WOW is all I can say.  This is why I take care of paperwork, I'm too stressed about bills to let someone else do it.  

  
  

  A few PPs mentioned a plot of a book where the license didn't get filed, well it actually happened to my godmother!
  

  
  

  My godmother and her husband got married in 1992 and didn't find out until 2005, when they were trying to adopt a child, that they weren't officially married!  They never got audited by the IRS or insurance companies, so that was REALLY lucky. 

  
  

  But, when they called the church, because the church was supposed to file, the letter was stamped and ready to be mailed in one of their filing cabinets! They just forgot to mail it! They had to file a new license and get witnesses to sign too.
