I've had nervous hands since my interview last week and since I can't do anything about that and won't hear back for a few days, I made cake last night. And then today I made icing, iced it and started to eat it. So I've been wondering what kind of cake you ladies fancy most.

Vanilla, it's just so versatile. You can pair it with heavy flavors like caramel or chocolate or light things like fruit. Basically, you could eat it everyday.

Death by Chocolate. Chocolate cake with a chocolate icing, chocolate ganache filling and topped with chocolate curls because there wasn't enough chocolate inside it.

Lemon cake with lemon, cream cheese or powdered sugar icing just hits the spot. Rather like a lemonade, but it's cake.

Carrot cake because it's almost like eating your vegetables. And cream cheese frosting is awesome.

Strawberry/blueberry/cherry because fruity flavors are the best

Marble cake. Who should have to choose between chocolate and vanilla?

My own birthday cake, because I can continue to eat the leftovers for the next week and no one will judge. Birthday pounds don't count.

I am a cake addict. I will eat the old cake in the back of your freezer so BEWARE!

Re: Cake

  • I enjoy all cake equally. I don't discriminate. In fact I'm having 3 different flavored tiers for our wedding cake. Pretty sure FI thinks it's crazy but whatev.

  • Ah, I love cake! Too much.. in fact I spent waaay too much time and effort on our wedding cake. We will have four different types (but all in one wedding cake of course). Along with a dessert table...

    .. I need help. =/
  • I said chocolate, but I waaaaay prefer icecream cake. It's just awesome. Oh and some mixed stuff that's not on there, like blackforest or strawberry shortcake. Mmmmmmmmm.
  • I voted vanilla but my favorite cake is really white cake. I don't think it is vanilla, at least it doesn't taste that way to me but it is delicious and when it had cream cheese icing it is the best.

I'm no help...I'm from New Orleans, and our cake was a traditional almond-flavored white cake with white buttercream frosting. It's delicious, and I've got about 10lbs of it hidden in the freezer for emergencies. At least that's what's traditional here... you can even get a "wedding cake" snowball here that has the same flavor. Seriously... kids order snowballs and say "wedding cake" snowball, as if there is only one flavor of wedding cake that exists. People expect it/crave it/talk about it in the days leading up to the wedding/threaten to never speak to you again if you serve anything else. If you have chocolate or plain vanilla cake at a New Orleans wedding, people will be all like WHAAAAAAAA??? I CAN'T EAT THISSSSSSS! WHERE IS THE WEDDING CAKE?

OMG how did I forget ice cream cake?  It's probably repression.  H's mom made him this super specific and difficult homemade ice cream cake for his birthdays so that's my task now.
  • Chocolate! My favorite chocolate cake is Linda's Fudge Cake from the Cheesecake Factory. Yum, so rich and dense and fudgey and oh my goodness I need to go and get a piece like right now!

  • I like almost all cake. I love chocolate cake but sometimes all of the chocolate can be too rich.  I love the versatility of vanilla too.  I'm just not a huge fan of cheesecake

  • I do not eat cake as I cannot taste it properly. It all tastes horribly bitter and mouth-burny to me.

  • I grew up thinking I hated cake.  Then I started baking from scratch when Fi wanted cake and I realized I actually love cake!  What I hated were the dry boxed cakes from a mix (sorry, Mom).

My favorite is Betty Crocker yellow cake.  It's moist and egg-y and vanilla-y, and it's great with either buttercream or chocolate icing.  Yummmm.

With the exception of carrot cake, I love all flavors of cake.  And pie.
  • I'm not a huge cake fan because most buttercream icing is too sweet/heavy for my taste. Cream cheese icing is the bee's knees, though.

We had 4 flavors in our wedding cake- vanilla cake with white buttercream, chocolate cake with caramel & toffee filling (H's fav), amaretto cake with raspberry filling (my fav), and chocolate with raspberry buttercream filling. We also had a make your own s'mores bar which was awesome.

Also, I am from St. Louis, so gooey butter cake is always appropriate.

  • I'm with @Phira on this one. Spice cake is the best cake. PERIOD.

  • At the 99 Restaurant up here, you used to be able to get this really light lemony-orange cake with a really nice champagne icing. It was basically so fucking light and wonderful that it ceased being cake and just became the idea that cake aspires to be.

I want a piece of that fucking cake now.

  • All cake is good cake, but I will legit eat spice cake for breakfast because I love it so much.

  • I'm an angel food cake kind of girl, but now I'm craving a rich, buttery, almondy vanilla cake with whipped cream frosting.

    Thanks a lot. :P

  • I love something with a whipped cream frosting- normal icing and fondant and all that is just too heavy and always throws off the balance of the cake.  So any kind of cake as long as there's whipped cream.

I do love a good whipped cream frosting.  I found a to die for recipe for strawberry whipped cream that I used for my husband's birthday cupcakes………and possibly ate by the spoonful.

I love burnt almond tort (It's a Pittsburgh thing).  I guess it's not technically a cake but tiramisu is my favorite dessert.

  • Red Velvet all the way.

I also like angel food cake and pound cake. H's favorites are marble or lemon pound cake. Or death by chocolate because he loves chocolate anything.
    image
  • I don't like Marble cake, chocolate frosting (which is a common dislike in my circle), and cream cheese frosting. I don't like lemon or fruit flavors near my cake. I do like chocolate cake with vanilla frosting (buttercream frosting is better) or vanilla and vanilla.

  • I didn't vote b/c the only kind of cake I like is red velvet.  No idea why, but I don't like any other kind.  Frosting on the other hand...I can and do eat that out of the can.

And ditto on ice cream cake being the best:)  If I could figure out the logistics we would just have that for the wedding.
  • white cake, raspberry filling.. vanilla butter cream
So you'll come eat the share of my wedding cake I won't be eating? (It's a vanilla cake with French creme and raspberry filling, vanilla buttercream frosting)
