  Wait I don't get it. Can't you have a shower where people bring boxed gifts that they chose themselves? A small registry doesn't mean people CAN'T bring boxed gifts. Target's website still has its full catalogue available, ya know?

  The bride told her parents (who are local and would have the most contact with the guests invited to the shower) to tell folks if they asked that they prefer cash.  So, as far as I know, that is already being spread, so I don't know that people would just get stuff off the registry after being told that (I don't know that they've asked yet, but there is that chance - also, the chance that they get the shower invite, see the limited registries, ask the parents, and the parents say the cash thing).... 
  
  I told him a traditional shower wouldn't really work and suggested the recipe shower and they LOVED the idea, so, crisis averted!
