FI just reminded me of something that might be tmi and is definitely AWish

FI just called to congratulate me (and honestly he reminded me I had forgotten the date) because today I have officially been clean for 9 years.

  • It might be silly but I'm a little touched by this. I usually don't share this because it is something I'm super ashamed that I ever did and I'm always worried about harsh judgement.

I'm addicted to food, that doesn't even have addictive qualities. I think everyone is slightly addicted to something. Add caffeine to that list. Plus I have a very addictive personality. You know how some people say they can't put down books, I almost literally can't put them down. I obsessively think about them until I'm done. I put off sleep, work, cleaning, even hanging out with friends and I can't stop. I know it isn't the same and none of those things I listed are actually addictive, so I can't imagine something that was.

I always am very careful about how much I drink because alcoholism runs in my family, but if I didn't know that, I could see myself easily going down that path accidentally (not realizing until it was too late). I also refused cigarettes and any other drug at college, because I knew my personality made those so much more dangerous to me.

I won't judge at all. I'm happy and proud of you. I'm sure you have walked a tougher path than me, so respect. At this point you have nothing to be ashamed of.

ETA: sorry if that was too much. I'll leave it though.

People will judge. However, I think anyone who manages to pull themselves out of that hell and makes a new life is pretty impressive.

Is there a 9 year cake in your future tonight?

I have an addictive personality too. I was just too young to realize that when I started. I'm addicted to caffeine too. I actually just quit smoking this year, it was the last thing I had left over from my not so awesome period.

@mysticl I know some people will judge. That is partly why I don't share. Idk about the cake. But FI did cook my favorite meal tonight.

No judgement here. Just a ton of love and respect. That is an awesome accomplishment. And no small feat. Yay! Celebrate! I'm very impressed. Also, anyone who judges you can go F themselves.
  • Amazing job!

  • No judgment here. I grew up with alcoholism in my family and I freely speak about it with people. My dad is going on 17 years sober next month And I couldn't be more proud of him. Some people will judge but all you'll find here is support!
