Someone from our venue (one of the serving staff?) would have cut and plated out cake for us if we had a full one (we had a small cutting cake and then CUPCAKES!). Weird your venue or caterer won't do this. Seriously, who else is supposed to?

If someone offers I would take them up on it. Offer to pay a friend or family member. If the wedding is small enough, cutting the cake yourselves and serving it would be a nice gesture and allow you to personally say "hello".

If I were your friend, I'd offer to cut the cake, as long as you didn't expect each piece to look meticulous ;)

Perhaps ask your caterer if they won't do it, can they suggest other options that have worked for other couples?

If someone does help, have someone remind them to wash their hands and maybe provide food handlers gloves and an apron, because, you know, frosting.

So if you have a family member or friend cut the cake, make sure they wear gloves,or even better - cut the cake in another area where your guests won't see!
I don't like to see people wearing gloves to handle food.  The gloves sit in an open box and multiple people reach into that box to get gloves.  The outside of the gloves have been sitting exposed to the air and germs and multiple people have reached in and touched them and since they are planning to wear gloves they may not have bothered to wash their hands.  It's also possible that people have sneezed and coughed over them. I'd much rather the food handlers just wash their hands properly.

You just killed all hope I had left. We rely on gloves, for like, everything. Way to spoil the party!

Seriously, those are really good but really nasty points I never thought of.
Um, your toothbrush has also been sitting out exposed to the air and germs, etc.  Doesn't stop you from putting it into your mouth on a daily basis.

    Not necessarily

After 6 years and 2 boys, finally tying the knot on October 27th, 2013!

  • Actually.  http://www.tbyil.com/Exposed_Toothbrushes.htm

In the Mythbusters segment which has been cited to disprove the idea of particles of poo traveling outside the toilet, what they actually found was that bacteria from feces can be found everywhere - including on a pair of "control" toothbrushes they put away in a medicine cabinet in another room. That is hardly reassuring nor is it in any way proof that particles do not travel from the toilet to exposed toothbrushes. Plus, the Mythbusters team only tested for bacteria and not actual particles nor viruses.
  • Nah, just lysol your toothbrush and you'll be good.  Just Kidding!!  However, we do vinegar or peroxide our toothbrushes every few days, and keep them in a drawer.

As for the cake cutting, bad vendor.  Good Luck and paying people in cake is always good in my book.

    Now I want cake.
