Is anyone taking bets regarding how long the threads will be there?
They are over on Chit Chat.

Ugh how the hell am I supposed to read about crazy brides bitching about their bridesmaids with all this shit here?  This is the most entertaining forum :-(
LOL, agreed. Someone posted in between all of this mess yesterday. Her post is buried. We may as well leave it so the KGs can find the cluster easily.
  • Here we go again. How many pages are we up to?

I don't know how many pages. I lost count, but we're at six boards so far.

I can't believe a spammer would sit through the 48 hour waiting period to post spam threads on TK.

  • Came across this on page 3 as well. I'm going through and trying to find real threads to get them bumped up, if only briefly.

...and this is what the mods were for. This board is absolutely flooded....

By the time I started coming on here, there were no mods. What were they used for? I know a lot of sites have them. Do they have the ability to delete inappropriate posts and ban users from posting?

They used to until there were some disagreements on how mods acted (which is the highly PC way of putting that) and overnight, instead of removing the problem mod(s), they removed ALL mods. Because that was totally the best way to solve the problem.

I could see that getting tricky if some people don't handle the responsibility well. Were some mods on a power trip?

Yes. There was a mod who talked her co-mod into banning everyone on her board because a few made negative comments about a picture she posted of her dog laying on her husband's tighty whiteys.Weird, but true.

There was another mod who made it her personal mission to get two well respected community members banned. After the board updates, she went on a flagging spree, not realizing the flags and love its  were public and was caught red- handed. And there were a few who were hostile to posters who didn't fit into their cliques.

The majority of moderators were helpful, banned spammers, deleted and warned abusive posters, welcomed newbies and facilitated discussions.

  • Did the mods get banned for their inappropriate use of their authority?

There are now 33 pages of spam. @knotporscha, this should be cleaned/attended to immediately.

Molly, in more recent Knot history, one got banned for that last summer, and then the rest of them suffered kind of as the result. That's when they got rid of mods entirely. It was all part of the shitshow that went down last summer.

  • Just want to bump this. Y'all, we totally don't need mods. Clearly, the website is doing fine by itself.

Oh, I see. I wish I had been on last year then. It seems like an interesting time. Then, maybe I'd have a better idea of what people keep referring to.

Why did the user get banned in recent history? Do you agree with that call, other than the loss of mod? If I'm being too nosy, tell me to shut up about it.
  • She got banned for reporting people who did not deserve reporting. It is why the report feature no longer is activated. She was wrong to do it, but I did think banning her was harsh. However, she was warned, and she kept doing it. Everything just spun out of control, and I wish the end results had been different for everyone.

  • This spamming is getting out of control. But nooooooooooo, we don't need any kind of moderation, especially on weekends. Not at all...

  • Bump. KP you do realize that this shit would have most likely not happened if mods had been reactivated, right?

  • What a great site...this will definitely make TK lose potential new members to post in here.

She was also threatening to ban people on boards she didn't moderate.
  • That's right. I forgot about that, Arrippa!

Nearly noon and still no action on this? It's ridiculous. I moderated/administrated a smaller but still highly trafficked message board several years ago, and remember getting up in the middle of the night sometimes to do IP bans when we would get hit with spammers. I remember one time staying up most of the night blocking IPs and pre-emptively banning bot accounts before they could post. You'd think that a site that generates revenue through advertising would be even more on top of their game.

ETA: I see that the spammers have been banned, so why are their threads still visible? I thought banning deleted your posts/threads? People posted genuine questions on this board, and it's ridiculous that we have to wade through dozens of pages of junk to find them.

  • My favorite part is that it's pretty clear which of these posts are spam. Like, they didn't even bother to come up with a "tricky" title for them. It's just straight up: Who wants some Rx's? Someone who gave a shit could just click through without even having to think too hard to delete these, right? (Ex-mods or tech people feel free to correct me if I'm talking out of my ass on this).
