Chit Chat

Oh hey there Monday, you came around quickly!

So, it's Monday, FI is off on his road trip for work, and I spent the last half hour crying because I hate being away from him. He had to pick stuff up at the office, so he probably hasn't even left town yet!

My plans for the next four days include: (in no particular order)
Copywriting for my FBIL's website as my wedding present to him and my sister
"Merging" two dress designs that FSIL loves so she can see what dress A looks like with dress B's neckline and straps
Finishing up a logo design, if my "boss" ever gets back to me about the client's colour scheme
Working on my manuscript
Marathoning Gilmore Girls, possibly Charmed, maybe NCIS (in the background, obviously, just so I don't feel like I'm completely alone)
Watching a ton of movies: Donnie Darko, Gone with the Wind, Love Actually, As It Is In Heaven (AKA the saddest movie ever made), Guys and Dolls, Pitch Perfect, Fight Club, Gattaca, The Breakfast Club, The Devil Wears Prada, Two Weeks Notice, The Birdcage, and Arthur
And eating a ton of raisin bread and yogurt because these are things FI does not appreciate

And, of course, the ever-present job hunt.

What's on your agenda this week?

  • I absolutely hate being away from FI too. Right now I deal with that pretty often as we work completely different work schedules. Yum @ raisin bread! Love your movie and TV selections also!

I have work tonight and Wednesday night and a baby appointment Wednesday afternoon. I'm 13 weeks now and no longer nauseous but hungry all the time, so the only other plan I have is to eat. And then maybe eat some more.

  • It's the last week of school for me, so work and a doctor's appointment.

It sounds like you have a lot to keep your mind occupied, plus with Gilmore Girls, you'll be good to go! It's tough, but I do promise you'll be okay. Enjoy that raisin bread and yogurt! My kiddos graduated last Thursday, so this week I get to enjoy the quiet and pack up my room. Also, FI FINALLY sold his condo downtown (hooray!!) so we have to get a storage unit and start moving some things in there/switching things out of my place.

  • Work is crazy, the new dog needs training, and we have a ton of house projects we're already behind on. I also spent 40 minutes on the phone with amazon trying to figure out why my Orphan Black marathon wasn't working (there was an error with my season pass that allowed me to be billed but didn't recognize new episodes).

My goal is to spend evenings on wedding crafts and Orphan Black but it's not going to happen.

  • Movie marathoning will work well for ya :)

My FI works on a revolving shift schedule, so he his schedule is kinda nuts. One set of shifts, he's on nights for 4 nights. Another, he works 3 days, followed by 3 nights (hell week, called that for a reason). His upcoming schedule is nothing short of a shit parade.

He just finished the day shift portion of hell week yesterday, so he will go on 3 nights starting 6pm tonight. Normally, the week after this he'd get to go in 6:30-2:30. Well, that got rescheduled, so he's doing ANOTHER hell week. Followed by two 4-day weeks of ONLY night shifts. He's going to be a fucking MESS. Coming off of nights, especially when he has to start day shifts in a few days, really fucks with him, so he's going to be watching a whole lot of late-night TV and I'm going to get woken up by screeching metal music punctuated by him snoring with his face mushed onto the kitchen counter (he can fall asleep mostly standing up, skillz!)

When he goes on night shifts that fall during my work week, I marathon TV shows (Golden Girls, Clone High, TrueBlood seasons 1-3, Frasier, and RHOA), paint/draw, and play ESO or The Sims 3. On weekends, I add cleaning and errands to the mix.

  •  At least you have things on the go to keep you busy! Invite a friend over, and have some wine/appies one night too! Girls nights are never a bad idea. :)

Last week was busy for us, so I'm happy this week's slightly less crazy. Working Mon-Fri, as per usual, and heading out of town for my dad's 50th this weekend. We've been planning a surprise Bday party for a couple of months now, and expecting 50+ guests! There's a few of us planning, so hopefully all goes well! My dad doesn't know we're coming to town, (let alone that there's a party), so I need to keep a low profile Fri, and Sat, up until the party, Sat eve. (Doesn't help that I drive a lime green SUV, and it's a small city). So we're on decorating/set-up duty for that. I'm definitely looking forward to it! :)

Other than that, I have some school work to get done. (Taking a couple of summer courses). That's about it though! :)

     Happy Monday!

  • I have a dentist appointment today. I have not been to the dentist in 6 years. I'm terrified.

    image

And aside from work and the gym, that's pretty much all I got going on this week.
  • I only have three days of work this week, then wedding stuff Thursday and Friday, including the rehearsal dinner.  Mostly everything is done so there isn't a lot of stress happening right now.  I also need to start packing for the honeymoon. Work shouldn't be too stressful either because I'm wrapping stuff up here.

Good luck at the dentist @ClimbingBrideNY I hate going and I go every 6 months too....

  • We moved last week into a house with VERY little closet space so I will spend most of my non-working week trying to figure out what to do with all our shit and emptying the last of the boxes.

I also have a dress fitting Thursday and invitations went out a week and a half ago so I'll be obsessively checking the mail.

Call me an asshole, but I kind of like it when FI leaves for a few days every so often. I sleep better alone and I seem to get a lot more done.

  • I only have three days of work this week. I get a payback day for working Memorial Day and then I'm taking a vacation day Saturday so FI and I can head down to join my family for our annual beach week. So I will basically be staring at the clock waiting for work to be over so I can stuff myself on grandma's amazing cooking, play with my niblings (new favorite word; it's a collective term for nieces/nephews and I find it adorable) and fight my uncle for hammock rights. Can't wait!

@ClimbingBrideNY‌ I was in your shoes (dentally speaking) last fall. I had six cavities (1 per year I didn't go?) but they were all minor, so hopefully it will be fine for you too.

Not an asshole at all. I feel the same way. FI actually goes to his parents house one night a week so I can have some alone time in the house to get shit done. We also sleep in different beds a few nights a week (due to different schedules) but I sleep SO much better alone.

Me too! I catch up on the crappy tv that I never end up seeing when he's around and make the dinners he hates. It's kind of nice!

Get thee to Amazon and get some organizing shit! I just helped my friend pick a bunch of stuff for their new house so that she will be prepared. Get a door hanger purse rack (click), stackable shoe shelves- which can be excellent multi-taskers (click), and maybe some dresser drawer organizers (click) if you've got shelves in the closets that you can work shit out on.

I am also a fan of stackable wire shelves for kitchen and bathroom cabinets. They are usually cheap as hell and I get them at walmart. Door hooks and that purse rack thing I linked to above are fucking GODSENDS when you're finding yourself with a ton of shit and not enough space!

  • @ClimbingBrideNY‌ I know the number sounds kinda bad but they were really minor. And this is coming from someone who, while I brushed my teeth, never flossed or rinsed or all the other good stuff you're supposed to do. So really this is like worst case scenario stuff; didn't mean to make you more anxious.

I was really scared about going too; my old dentist I had from the time that I had teeth and he was just not a nice person and scared me in general. Any sort of dental issue I had he would make it seem like it was this huge deal and that all my teeth were going to fall out. New dentist talks me through everything she does and doesn't use scare tactics. Now I'm much better about going.

Good to know! I do brush twice a day, and rinse and floss every night. And my old dentist was like that too. Doom and gloom and fucking scared the bejesus out of me. I'm going to FI's dentist (actually someone he went to HS with) and FI is meeting me there. LOL. And he also warned them that I am very afraid.
  • @beethery thanks!

my biggest issue is no closet hanger rods. Like, the entire house has a total of maybe 5 feet of closet rod. I hang up every single thing except jeans. I bought two garment racks to put in the spare bedroom for now and we're going to go to goodwill or something to get a dresser for FI so I can have all the closets.

There's no coat closet so I have NO IDEA what I'm going to do with shoes and coats. UGH. Shoes left out on the floor gross me out. I might get one of those benches with the little drawers to put inside the backdoor for shoes. :( I don't even have a lot of clothes or shoes but I never realized how much I loved closets until I have none. I should never have left my poor apartment. I bet it has already moved on to someone who appreciates all its closets.

The doom and gloom is also why I didn't go to the dentist for almost 6 years. My old dentist was terrible and used to make me feel SO bad every time I went in there. FI got me going to his dentist and I absolutely LOVE him! I had 6 cavities (and not little baby ones either) but everyone was so nice about it and made me feel very comfortable. Each time I got a couple of them filled they would give me nitrous oxide to get through the needle portion (because that's what freaks me out) and then I was fine. They even sent me flowers for giving them a shout out on Facebook! It sounds like you take awesome care of your teeth so I'm sure that you won't have any major issues. Good luck!

  • Aww, I hate being away from FI, too. Since we moved in together we have not spent a night apart, but he will be going away for a friends bachelor party next month, and I know I will be miserable because I hate sleeping alone. Sounds like you are going to keep yourself quite busy, which is good. And Gilmore Girls marathons always work :)

ClimbingBrideNY - I detest the dentist. I don't know who I hate more, the dentist or the gyno. I am up for an appointment. I actually want to get a whitening treatment but I'm scared to do so because I have sensitive teeth.

This week is FI's bday! The BIG 30. I think I want to bake him some cupcakes, and then I am still trying to figure out what to do and what to get him.

  • @ShesSoCold

If you are renting and do not want to put holes in the walls, I'm going to recommend tension rods. They make closet-specific ones, but if you're not going to hang an ass-ton of heavy stuff on it, you could probably do just as well with a shower rod. Measure the width of your closet first so you can make sure you get the right size. If you guys own the joint, put in another closet rod halfway down the wall in the closet and you can double-up the space.

These are fucking rad for pants (click), but if you want to pack a FUCK TON in, you ought to get at least one of these (click) and hang it on the mounted closet rod. It might be too heavy once packed up for a tension rod.

More options would be to put a tension rod or preferably a closet hanger across your laundry room, if you have one, and hang coats or whatever in there so that you free up closet space that way.

I also fucking detest shoes on the floor because I am constantly tripping over FI's shoes and work boots that he is forever leaving directly in front of the fucking kitchen door even though we have a shoe shelf RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO IT.

I was supposed to get up and do a fuck tonight* off errands, but I'm not feeling the best. So, we'll see what I manage to get done. I'm going to spin class with a friend at 6:45. I'd like to get my acrylic nails taken off and go back to gel/shellac. I think I'll need to decide between picking up my knife block at crate and barrel, or hanging my hummingbird feeders. Not sure I have the motivation to do both.

*Fuckton. fuckton. I hate my new phones autocorrect.

  • Monday definitely came around too quick for my liking. This week I need to get further on changing my last name. It sucks because I have to get my social done first, but in order to go to the office, I would have to take off early from work (again) and I would really not like to have to do that as I have a few days here and there that I have taken off early. I wonder if I could mail it? Probably wouldn't ever see my ML again though. Not sure if they keep that or not.

Then I need to go to a doc appointment tomorrow for a sonogram to see if my ovarian cysts have gotten better, or not. Other than that, just clean the house and finish laundry and I should be good.

  • I just flew back from Philly this morning.  Surprise party was great.     So the plan on taking a nap and just chill today, then get back to work tomorrow.   I thought I would have to clean, but DH surprised me by doing it for me.  Yeah DH.

DH has a busy week. 2 of his restaurant outlets open today and he has a big weekend wedding. The club is just getting busier and busier.  Will be that way until Sept.  My nights this week will just be me and the dogs.  Plans are to take them for hikes, watch some TV.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We went to FI's son's high school graduation on Saturday, then moved the kids up into our house (they were at their aunt and uncle's for the last year while FI was deployed).  So now I live with my insta-family (they are 18 and 14, so not little ankle-biters).

  • Last weekend we picked out rehearsal invites and I went BM dress shopping with my girls! Had a blast! FI started his new job today which means from now on, we'll have every weekend to spend together. Yay!
