Dealt with some major rudeness tonight.

So I was chatting with my work friend tonight about my shiny new engagement ring, and I mentioned how rude I thought it was when our boss asked me how much my ring cost, and how FI afforded it.

BUT THEN.
She scoffs and says,"Well he probably thought they're real diamonds."

1. THEY ARE REAL BITCH. RECOGNIZE.
2. Even if they weren't, that's still hella rude and would probably make me feel sad.

I just can't.

  • Holy banaaaaanas! What did you say to her about her 'real' comment?

    I'm the fuck

  • How classless!
  • Oh my god! What an awful thing to say to someone!
  • I don't get why people make a big deal about diamond size / stone variety / engagement rings in general.  They're important & symbolic to the person wearing it and the person who gave it to them - what else matters?  My diamond is small, by most accounts, and people ask me if I'm going to "upgrade" it in a few years.  WHY THE FUCK?!  I adore my engagement ring; who asked you?!
A good friend of mine has a white emerald - her FI couldn't afford a diamond, but she LOOOVES the fact that it's not a diamond.  It's unique and special to her.

People need to keep their stupid opinions in their stupid heads.

  • Holy shitballs! That's fucking crazy rude.
  • Ew, how obnoxious of her. Also I'm sick of the whole "Real" thing comment about rings. Even if you didn't have diamonds, they wouldn't be "Fake." They would be real moissanite or real CZ, because not being a diamond doesn't make a stone "Fake." Also I love that bird Gif. I wanna hug that thing.

ME TOO! Diamonds are not the end all be all.

  • I would have told her to go jump in a magma chamber, then again I like to escalate things quickly.

  • 1) All the GIFs in your OP made my day. 2) How bloody rude. Her little green monster of jealousy is showing.
  • Wow. Just Wow. I think I would've just stared at her for five straight minutes trying to comprehend the audacity if I was in that situation. Some people have no class...

  • Yeah... People are weird about rings. When I first showed up with my ring at work, my coworker said "wow, that's huge," in an irritated way and then my boss started in about how big/how many carats her ring is. She talked about it longer than I even talked about my engagement. After she finished I just walked away, realizing that I didn't even explain how my FI had asked or anything like that.

People who put stock in material things need to constantly reassure themselves that they have the best of the best.

  • That bird gif is giving me MAJOR ISSUES. I recognize if from the saddest most awful animal special I've ever seen and that bird is a MONSTER AND I HATE HIM.

I agree. Another work friend got engaged in January and she's losing her shit, even though she used to claim never wanting to get married...

  • People are the worst.

I've had a few people comment on how small my ring is.  Well, uh:

    A) Have you met me, guys?  Have you noticed how I never wear any jewelry and a huge rock would look silly on me?

    B) It's the diamond FI's first dad gave his mom before he died.  It meant so much to me that that part of FI's life was shared with me.

    And, most importantly, C)  image
Yeah! Big fits my personality. My style is best described as: 90s grunge/golden girl/anime character. Haha!

    And B, OMG. So sweet.

  • Some people just can't let other people be happy. When I got engaged a (now former) friend looked at my ring and said, "well if you like attention, I guess that ring is nice..."

Haha I love it!  My style is more of..."oh shit I have to put on clothes to go out in public?  well these sweats look comfy...what do you MEAN I can't go to work in my wife beater and yoga pants?"  I put on some weight over the last couple years due to meds (and pizza...pizza is life) and don't feel quite comfortable with my body/old clothes, so I've been keeping it pretty plain.

That's just wrong on so many levels.  They were both tacky as hell.  So sorry you had to deal with that!

Gurl, yes.  My new office is pretty casual; my work attire went from suits every day, to flip flops, leggings and wearing a Wall-e blanket wrapped around my shoulders.  #winning

  • Wow, who says that! I agree with above posters about the ring being special to you, and people commenting on the size/etc. I knew from the time I thought about getting engaged that I didn't want diamonds. They just never we're my taste! When FI and I we're looking/talking about rings I said I wanted littler diamonds in comparison to one larger diamond just because those were the rings I were drawn to when we were looking. I'm sure when people see if they have comments, but I could care less. This is what I wanted, and that's all that matters. People need to keep their mouths shut if they don't have anything nice to say!
