Hi everyone! I'm writing an article for my site about first looks/touches, and would love to hear if you are thinking of doing one, and why or why not. And if you had one, would you recommend it? If you didn't do you wish you had?

(If you don't feel like writing about it publicly, you can email me at kelly at littlevegaswedding dot com. Thanks!)

Some favorites I've featured on the site in the past:

Re: First Looks: Yay or Nay?

  • Definitely not. We've been together since high school I don't feel the need to hide away and do a big reveal. We love shopping together so we bought our wedding clothing together and got ready together.
  • Yay! We are choosing to do first looks so we can have plenty of time for pictures, and get to our wedding reception earlier without making guests wait around for us. Plus it's much more personal having a moment together before the wedding, instead of seeing each other for the first time in front of all your wedding guests. First look pictures always come out really cute too!
  • I think first looks are cheesy and I would feel really awkward doing that. The photos look posed/forced/fake.

Im 100% yay! I think it was really worth it for us, we had a sunset ceremony, we would've had less then 40 minutes of sunlight to finish our wedding photos. As luck would have it, our guests were almost an hour late getting to our ceremony because the shuttle company screwed up. So we were very thankful we decided to do it.

I should note, we are not a traditions following couple.

  • nope! we are seeing each for the first time when i walk down the aisle

  • Yes first look - one because we are not doing a cocktail hour so we wanted to do pictures before, and two because we want to have that "first" moment together before we are in front of all our guests. I definitely see both sides of it and it's all about what works for you and your FI :)

  • If we're just classifying a first look as doing photos before the ceremony, I like them from the perspective of get the photos out of the way so you can spend more time with your guests, and they're certainly helpful if there are time constraints on the venues or even mother nature, like catching a sunset.  I didn't really care either way, wife wanted to not see each other until the ceremony, so we did that and had a cocktail party for the guests while we went and did photos.

  • I was kinda thinking a first look would help me with having less anxiety. But my groom refuses! Lol! He is seeming very taditional on that front.

I agree with @vegasgroom I like them as a guest for logistical reasons. I don't want to wait around for ever while you take pictures. We aren't doing first look pictures and we aren't worried about seeing each other before the wedding. 6 years together and a child, we don't need show, it's just nos. our photos will be different anyways, we much prefer the candies as opposed the the forced posed ones.
  • Doing one with photos in the casino. But he won't see the gown before then. Either way works IMO.
    Happiness is an inside job
  • We will be doing ours at the Neon Museum. Since we will be with our guests from Thurs-Sun, it will be nice to have some time to ourselves to just enjoy all that is happening. Then we don't have to rush with photos later and can enjoy our reception. Plus I think the photos always turn our cute!

  • We did one, and while we still did photos after the ceremony (better lighting at that time) it helped reduce the amount of time pictures took after.  I wanted to do it to reduce anxiety, and it was nice to have a few minutes before the ceremony with just us.  Definitely can see both sides of it though, couples should do what feels right to them.

We discussed doing a first look but ultimately decided not to do one. I am so glad we didn't. Seeing my husband tearing up as I walked down the aisle was probably my favourite part of the entire wedding... he is normally not emotional at all so it was really special. With a first look we wouldn't have had that moment so it was definitely the right decision for us. Edited to add: He did see me when my hair and makeup was done, but once I was in the wedding dress he didn't see anything until the ceremony.
  • Valeriecruz82 Such a sweet picture!

We did first look pictures, and he still teared up when I walked down the aisle :-)
