So FI and I went to a store on Friday night to exchange an item. The store asked for my ID for the return (which they did not need since I had my receipt) and did not give it back to me. I realized this on the way home (they were closed), so I called and told them to hold it until the morning. I go back the next morning and am told it was cut up the night before by the manager who was told I would be back to get it.
I used to work for the company and I know their store policy is to hold the ID in the safe for 30 days, not cut it up that night. I've been calling everyone in the chain from the company that I know to get an exact copy of the policy that they broke so that they will reimburse me for my new ID that I now have to go get, because ya know, DMVs are hella fun. Everyone I've spoken to from the company, as well as the police, have all agreed that the store was not allowed to do that, by store policy or legally.
I had to file a police report about it, which doesn't file for 5-7 days and I think I need it to get a new ID number. You can get a replacement without it but it would have the same number...I don't trust that the store actually destroyed it well enough so I want a new number and you need a police report to do that. I called our DMV, which is not open Mondays but they have a general line, and he said I can use my case number as my report, so hopefully that's true!
I've had one hell of a fun morning calling 50 different people, so someone please pass me some wine.
