Wedding Woes

Can you tell me what you think?

Hello I have obviously never done this before, however can you tell me what you think?  I have chosen readings thats I have liked and taken bits and pieces from each.

Wedding reading

We are here today to celebrate the miracle of love.  Stephen and Tania have found that miracle in each other and now desire to share their love all the days of the live.

Here are some wonderful words that define the true meaning of love

Never go to bed angry. Let your love be stronger than your anger. Learn the wisdom of compromise, for it is better to bend than to break. Believe the best of your beloved rather than the worst. Confide in your partner and ask for help when you need it.

Destiny is a mysterious thing.

No matter what you do or where you go, you can’t avoid it.And, no matter how hard you try, even putting forth your greatest effort, you can’t force it to happen before its time.

This occasion we witness today is the destiny of two souls.

There is not a force in the universe that could have kept Tania and Stephen apart and there is nothing they could have done to come together sooner.

Each of them had to live their lives to this point, lives that were stepping stones that have led to this moment in time, this uniting of hearts and minds that shall be forever more. Destiny is an agreement of souls fulfilled in life.

Yes, destiny is a marvellous and mysterious thing.

Throughout human tradition, when you make a pledge, it has been deemed good to have a token to remind you of that pledge. For this purpose you have chosen rings.

These rings are a symbol of the unbroken circle of love. Love freely given has no beginning and no end. Love freely given has no giver and no receiver - for each is the giver and each is the receiver. May these rings remind you always of the vows you have taken here today?

Please place these rings, and honor each other in their giving.  "Tania, I promise to be faithful, supportive, and loyal and to give you my companionship and love throughout all the changes of our life. I vow to bring you happiness, and I will treasure you as my companion. I will celebrate the joys of life with you. I promise to support your dreams, and walk beside you offering courage and strength through all endeavors. From this day forward, I will be proud to be your husband and your best friend."

"Stephen, I promise to be faithful, supportive, and loyal and to give you my companionship and love throughout all the changes of our life. I vow to bring you happiness, and I will treasure you as my companion. I will celebrate the joys of life with you. I promise to support your dreams, and walk beside you offering courage and strength through all endeavors. From this day forward, I will be proud to be your wife and your best friend."

By the power vested in me by the state of Michigan I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride.

Ladies and Gentlemen it is my pleasure to introduce Mr. and Mrs. Stephen O’Hara

Re: Can you tell me what you think?

  • Is this a wedding or a vow renewal?  If you are already married,, introducing a bride and groom is a bit misleading.

ETA: You might want to remove your full name and change your user name to something a little more anonymous.

  • I think never go to bed angry is silly advice, but my personal opinion. It also sounds a little cliche.

  • Can't read it, Comic Sans.

SiTB, but I was about to post the same thing. Are people really still doing this?
  • Don't go to bed angry makes me stabby. Quite often it is the smartest thing you can do.
  • As a follow on, it is just too cheesy and contrived. Words from theheart would be a much better idea.
  • didn't read the whole thing... but are you really both going to be able to say this whole thing? "Stephen, I promise to be faithful, supportive, and loyal and to give you my companionship and love throughout all the changes of our life. I vow to bring you happiness, and I will treasure you as my companion. I will celebrate the joys of life with you. I promise to support your dreams, and walk beside you offering courage and strength through all endeavors. From this day forward, I will be proud to be your wife and your best friend." It's kinda long, both to memorize, read, or to try to do repeating the phrases the officiant says.
  • This paragraph is weird. "Each of them had to live their lives to this point, lives that were stepping stones that have led to this moment in time, this uniting of hearts and minds that shall be forever more. Destiny is an agreement of souls fulfilled in life." Lives are not stepping stones. Events are stepping stones. Occasions are stepping stones. Life is the path not stepping stones. And the rest of the paragraph is just weird and doesn't really say anything.

Wedding reading not a "reading", it's a ceremony

I'd keep going, but it's time to go home.  PM me if you want more help.  I'm a writer, I love this shit.
  • Message TSchillerOhara! She's doing a great job of spiffing up the wording.

One thing I might consider- "the changes in our lives" - it brings back memories of my great aunts talking about menopause. Maybe I'm just an weirdo. I would maybe say "throughout the stages of our lives".

     change wording below as above

  • I think it's a little short, personally. When I helped write my sister's wedding, I just stole a ceremony I found online and made lots of changes. Also, look into the laws in the state of Michigan, they might have a particular wording they require in order to be valid. (For example, the only wedding I officiated required in their state a "Declaration of Intent", otherwise known as the "I Do"s or the "do you take". This is not to be confused with the vows which are the promises you make to each other.) Also, depending on who is officiating the marriage, they may have some items they require/request/prefer. A week before my sister's wedding I took away her access to the google document we were using to write her ceremony. Then I put in the part that was secret, the sermon or homily, in which I wrote their Love Story. I asked the bride and groom (and secretly a couple of their friends) how they met, how they knew it was love, and what they hoped for their future, and I told their love story to their wedding guests. It was touching and funny and my sister loved it.
