I wanna gush about FI!

I'm in a lovey dovey bubble today guys, I can't even think about anything else except for how tomorrow we've been together for TEN YEARS. Like I say it all the time but guys, guys...it's fucking huge. When we got together, Bush was wrapping up his first term of office, DOMA and DADT were still in play, I don't even think Canada had legalized same sex marriage, guys...Biber was 10. And way less of a d-bag.

I'm just so amazed it's been 10 years. Some days I really feel those 10 years. I feel very adult. I feel like we've fought the world together and I feel all of our wounds. But other days. Most days thankfully, I still feel like the crazy in love 18 year old I was when we met. I still look at her and am amazed I get to love her. And that she loves me right back. When she slips in her hand in mine at the movies, I still remember our second date at the movies where she hesitated to take my hand her in her's. When she brings me coffee in the morning, I still remember the morning after we slept together the first time and I woke up to her bringing me coffee. I told her if she did that everyday I'd never leave.

Things haven't been perfect. But we got through everything with each other. Because of each other. She's been the woman standing by my side for the past 10 years and I can't wait for 10, 20, or 80 more with her right next me.

  • Awe that's really great! I think its awesome that you are so happy fraternal dress twin. I admire you for making it to 10 years and sounding that in love too. I hope V and I can be like you guys.

  • So sweet! :) Best wishes to both of you! I just hope that true equality for same sex couples doesn't take another 10 years. I'm so sorry for what you've had to go through in this regard, but it sounds like you are an amazing couple and have handled the challenges with grace and strength.

  • So frickin' sweet! Congrats you two!

  • That is awesome. Longer then DH and I have been together.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Our friends have taken to calling us the lesbian Marshall and Lily. Because we beat all of them in relationship length.

This was not our intent when we got together. I just thought she was hot and she liked my tattoos. We were both young and neither looking for "forever" but it just well..stuck.

That is so great.  When FI and I got together, "forever" was not in my vernacular.  I liked the fact that he was new in town like me, he liked my "poofy hair".

    Congrats to you two!!

Congratulations!  You sound so in love, and ten years is awesome.  It is amazing how much has changed (for the better, maybe except for Bieber) in that time.

Our friends call us Marshall and Lily too, especially because of the lawyer thing-- which is true for you two as well!  And we certainly weren't thinking forever, but sometimes it's just right.  You two actually sound a lot like us, except with two sets of lady parts and more tattoos.

We're you two, if you lived on the west coast. Being on the west coast makes you gay. This is just a fact.
  • That's awesome- congrats!! FI and I don't have an official dating anniversary, we just know it was December 2010 so I'm excited to get married and actually have an anniversary to celebrate lol

  • Congratulations, @MagicInk‌ and future Mrs. Magicink!

Also, I am so glad you posted this because I have been in a similar bubble for the last few weeks, and I usually get eye rolls from my friends about it because I am one of the least romantic people ever.

DH and I have been together 13 years, married for 4, so it's not an anniversary for me. It's about a place. I went back for my PhD to the university where we met and my summer class was right off the courtyard where DH and I met up after I asked him out over AOL instant messenger (don't judge). Every day on my way to class I would pass the the table where we held hands for the first time that day and think "That's where my forever started."

Now if you will excuse me, I think I have something in my eye... Sniffle. Must be pollen. Thanks for letting me gush a little, too!

  • Congrats!!! I hope you two have a great weekend.
  • Who is cutting all these onions in here??? /sniffle

I am so glad you shared this. FI and I will be seven and a half years next week, and I am so lucky to have him. I think the world needs more real love stories--not the ones that end when the couple falls in love, or when they get married, but the ones that go on and on through all the things you deal with every day.

  • Congrats on 10 years together!

Canada legalized same-sex marriage in July 2005. Most of the provinces had already legalized it by that time (starting in 2003). Common law unions (which carry almost all the rights of marriage) are legally recognized in Canada, and same-sex couples that met the definition of a common law union were extended the same benefits as hetero couples in 1999. Yay Canada!

  • And they say that gay marriage destroys the foundations of 'real' (ie, hetero) marriage and relationships.

This just totally proves why all that rhetoric is bullshit.
