Yep I'm the one who just cleaned her house before the her new housekeepers start on Monday. It that weird?

DH is flying in a chef to work for 2 months. He has to live with us. As a result DH hired a housekeeper to come in once a week while he is here to clean. Yay, Once the chef leaves we will cut her back. I think. Umm, maybe we will cross that bridge when we come to it :-)

I'm so jealous! I've been considering hiring someone to come every other week to do a deeper clean so I can just lightly clean every other week. I think it's one of those things that after you have it you'll say, "How did I live so long without this???"

It's not really a cost thing for me - I just feel so uncomfortable with a stranger being in my personal space. I work from home many days, though, so I could be here while they are here.

Not really. I know some only clean, they won't pick up so you have to have the floors, counters, etc. debris free so they can to the actual cleaning. Not mention you don't want your cleaning lady judging you.

I vote for crossing that bridge down the line too.

My mom used to make us clean our rooms before the cleaning lady came-I totally see where you are coming from. Besides, if you've done the easy stuff, now the real cleaning lady can hit the tough spots. I'd love to have someone come in once a month to do our place, but with only 1200 sf, its hard to justify it at this point.

My mom use to clean her house to the point they lowered her rate because they didn't have much to do. Ha.

I wasn't that detailed, but I did more then just pickup after ourselves.

Our place is only 1200 sq also, 3 story townhouse. When DH told me he found someone weekly I thought it was too often. I wanted a once or twice a month. But with E coming, I like knowing I do not have clean up after someone else for the next 2 months.

I have a feeling once E leaves we will cut it back to every other week.

I think it's super sweet that your H is organizing that to take a load of work off your collective shoulders. Having someone staying with you for two months is a big challenge in and of itself. It will be nice to have one less thing to deal with.

He can be very sweet. I had to remind myself of that today when I was cleaning up and black short socks were everywhere. Seriously, it's like they reproduce. Oh and they reproduce as different styles. It was hard to find matching ones.

Missing socks and pens are one of the wonders of the world. Where do they all go?

I know guys have differing sock needs. But I only really need one kind. So I ditched all my old socks once I wore them out and only bought a massive amount of the same kind.

Genius, I know.

Ponytail holders are still one of the biggest mysteries of the missing objects for me. Really. There should be a huge collection of them somewhere in this house.

Maybe the housekeepers will uncover all of the socks and pens for you just like car wash people do! They make them magically appear, I swear. Pens that is.. I don't keep random socks in the car. That's just gross.

My husband has to wear black socks with his uniforms but he wears white ones when he's in normal clothes. I do not understand why Hanes has to keep just slightly changing the style of their socks. I just have a laundry basket full of socks because trying pair them all sends me slightly over the edge.

DH likes to wear short black athletic socks with his chef clogs. He also buys Hanes. You are right, each season they are ever so slight change, but enough to notice they are different. Plus the black fads after a while. DH has a habit just grabbing the socks on top. Then eventually notices "new" socks on the bottom. So then I have to not only match styles, but how faded they are.

I have the ponytail holder issue too. I will buy 10 pack. It take about 2 weeks to lose 8 of them. Then I some how keep the last 2 for months.

This is why I can't hire a housekeeper! That and, like @lc07, I just don't feel comfortable with the idea of a stranger in our house touching our stuff.

This is why I can't hire a housekeeper! That and, like @lc07, I just don't feel comfortable with the idea of a stranger in our house touching our stuff.

I can see that. This woman is a long term housekeeping employee with the club. On the side she cleans for 2 other managers. I'm not concerned.

I also work from home and will be around. I've had someone come in the past to clean. Not on a regular basis, but once in a while. Man it's so nice to walk in after they clean. It's clear I'm not as good at cleaning as I should be.

We have someone come in weekly. I work from home so I'm here when she's here. We clean up before she comes, even the teen, because we learned the hard way that if we don't we'll have no clue where she put things

We hired her right about when FI moved in. It was a relationship saver for us (I'm very tidy and the other two are not). This way, everyone wins!

Nope, not weird at all and is a major discussion in our house right now. I drive 50 minutes each way to work. I am not, and never have been, a spotless housekeeper. Shamefully, I must admit the house has not recovered from the DD's wedding craziness 3 weeks ago.

DH suggested having someone come in weekly and I am all over that idea...as soon as I get the house back in shape.

Don't forget chap sticks or tweezers either! I think its the companies' doing. They make their products small, ect enough to keep losing them. But useful enough that we keep wanting to buy more of it.

My cats can open our drawers and the pony tail holders are their most prized possession! Lol

I have been trying to convince DH to hire a housekeeper while I am sick. He isn't comfortable having anyone in our home with just me there. Even if we did hire someone, I would be that girl that tidies beforehand. I don't want anyone to think I'm a slob!

At least your cats just steal ponytail holders. My kitty eats them, which is not fun. I can't wait until DH and I have some extra money and can get a cleaning lady. My mom had one that came in every week to clean the floors and bathrooms. She didn't pick up stuff, so if our bedrooms or play room weren't tidy, they wouldn't get cleaned, then we would have to vacuum.

I also have one cat that eats our towels and socks. If we leave them laying around, they become his next meal.

One of our cats eats cardboard and paper when she's mad. My master's degree has her "signature". One of the other ones has a thing for power cables, but that's a whole different issue. Animals!

When she's bored my cat eats hair ties, paper, tissues, cardboard, shoe laces, plastic bags, reusable shopping bags, bras, spaghetti straps, any food left on a plate, the cable cable. Apple chargers are like her bat signal, any time you plug in an Apple product she is there immediately to,try to eat it. Needless to say, our house is very tidy.

My problem with matching socks, even though most are the same style, is that some have been worn more than others, and so more or less stretched out or pilled or worn thin on the bottom. (I really need to buy higher quality socks). And it bugs me to have one sock that feels tighter and one that feel looser.

Ohhhh this is the worst! Loose socks feel so gross, especially compared to a tight one. Gahh.

Can I ask how much your housekeeping services cost? I know it'll be different, but I'm curious what the average is. Also, what do you get done? I feel like paying someone to do the nitty gritty stuff once in a while would be good since we are planning to sell in the next 5ish years.

I do not know. My husband fixed all this up. Today is the first day so this is a consultation too. I do know the other manager has a 5 bedroom house with a 2 kids and a dog or 2. They pay $50-60 every other week for general cleaning. Our place is much smaller with 2 less people, I do not see us paying more than $40.

Although I'm prepare to pay up to $100 (or more) for today. Being the first day I'm sure there is way more cleaning to be done, then week to week.
