Wedding Woes

Morning

How was the weekend?

Ours was nothing big- zoo with my folks Friday (which annoyed MIL because goodness knows we can't have grandparents do something without her) and out to dinner.  Saturday was our neighborhood parade and picnic.  M2 won her category (she may have been the only girl under 4).  Sunday was church then puttering around and researching iPad crap.

I also tried to explain SIL being sick to 6let.  We were chatting about our upcoming schedule and I said we'd be cooking for SIL and he wanted to know why. I figured it best to tell him she's sick and it's going to be hard on the family.  She may not be able to cook and Brother will be busy with kids and taking care of SIL so we wanted to try to help.

Watching my sweet boy's face while talking was awful and I was all teary.  I'm kind of glad we were in the van and he couldn't see me.

    We had a great weekend.

Friday-Woke up early and headed to a parade.  DefConn LOVED the horses and tractors.  We had lunch at a family friend's house and then went home for a few.  We cleaned up the house just in case we had a showing (we didn't) and then packed up and went to my sister's.  Once we got to my sister's house, we went to her neighbors for a party.  They had a kiddie pool and trampoline.  DefConn and the kiddo had a blast with all of that.  Everyone pooled their fireworks (probably close to $700 worth) and we had a nice show.

Saturday-We spent the night at my sister's house.  We got up and drove down to my friend's parent's house, which is on a private lake.  It's everything you'd think a $1M lakehouse would be.  It's one of the most beautiful homes I've ever been in.   I spent most the day on a float, just hanging out.  The kids and DH got to go out in the speed boat and the kiddo did some tubing.  DefConn would live on the water, in a boat.  DH said the faster the boat went, the bigger DefConn's grin.  We went home and DH, the kiddo, FIL, and DH's uncle went to see Motley Crue.  MIL, SIL, DefConn, and my nieces just hung out at our house until the guys got back.

Sunday-We slept in.  I made a big breakfast for everyone.  We watched Wimbledon.  DH did a break job and oil change on his car.  I went to the store.  We got the house back in order.  It was a perfectly relaxing day.  And bonus, his annoying friend didn't come over.
  • Our weekend was nice.

On Friday we traveled for a ball game.  By the time we got back home and showered and cooled off, we were too tired to do any more traveling to see fireworks (ours were cancelled due to flooding downtown) so we skipped them.  The kids didn't care.

Saturday and Sunday we had baseball games that knocked us out of the tourney.  Now we're just waiting to hear from the coach about the upcoming tournaments he's getting into.  We'll play through the rest of this month at least, and maybe a little into Aug.  (and then fall ball starts - wheee!)

Last night we were invited to our friend's house for dinner.  His GF is out of town and he was bored and lonely so he grilled for all 5 of us.  It was nice not to have to cook, although I did take some sides.

I'm miffed at our neighbor for setting off a bunch of fireworks right in front of our house.  My van was covered in residue and they left a bunch of trash in their front yard.  At 330 Sunday I was washing the van and picking the trash up from our yard and street.
  • 6, we also had asshole neighbors with fireworks.

Last night, DefConn was having a hard time since he's 3 and we were winding down from a busy weekend.  Getting him to actually go to sleep was a 2 hour process.  Once we *finally* got the whining/crying/screaming down to a dull roar at about 10PM, my effing neighbor starts up with the fireworks.  They were so close that they were shaking the house.  BOOM, DefConn sitting straight up in bed, screaming his head off.  I went in and rubbed his back for about 5 min and he was finally out.  I wanted to go out and scream at my neighbor for being an inconsiderate fuckwad. But he was well within the law to be setting them off (11PM is the cut-off).

The Mr. has a miserable summer cold, which put a wrench in the plans.

Friday morning, Buffy and I went out to do stuff, so the Mr. could sleep.  We got back and Buffy and the Mr. and I did a few quiet fireworks @ home.  Then she  failed to nap, so by 8, she was exhausted...but she still wanted to do fireworks.  Her noise-aversion has NOT improved with age--but she's more amenable to solutions like "here, here are some shooting muffs.  Put these on".
We drove down the road to where lots of people gather on the side of a main road (It's a bit redneck) and got out folding chairs and watched the fireworks show (we live only a mileish from the fairgrounds where they hold it)--Buffy fell asleep for the last 1/2 of it--but was wide awake in time for bedtime.  How do they do that?

Saturday, we didn't do much, and I attempted to make cake toppers for baby-sis, that she wants.  It was a fail.  Then we went over to my parents' and had a cookout, hung out, and bigsis did the master-travel-agent thing so we all have all of our tickets booked.  By the time that ended, Buffy got back in bed by 10pm.  She's kinda exhuasted.

Sunday I went to the craft store to buy more supplies because I will not let burlap beat me--Cake toppers will be made.
And that's the only time we left the house.
  • @GBCK, muffs vastly improved DefConn's reaction to fireworks.  He could actually enjoy them instead of screaming and clinging to me. He even let DH take him closer to where they were setting them off so he could watch.

Also, when we showed up to the lakehouse on Saturday, the neighbor was setting off the last of his supply. It was quite a boom in the cove, since there was so much to reverberate off of.  I prepared him for the boom after the first one (there were only 3, thankfully), so he actually did OK.

We've also had a lot of luck with her yelling "BOOM" back at them.  Self-made noise is OK, apparently :-P

I remember hating the noise as a kid too--makes sense to me, confusing loudness isn't fun.

(oh, also, in kid-TMI type stuff...she's made leaps and bounds in potty training [yay preschool!] and was dropped off in big-girl underwear today.  We're so close--she should be all set up to be potty trained *JUST* in time for our cross country trips to undo all of the work :-P)

@mrsconn23- the ones he was setting off were illegal no matter the time.

I want to like the guy, but he does a bunch of annoying things.  Leaves things out, kids all over our yard and flowers and even onto our back deck, mowing at 930 pm. Nothing major, but it adds up to me not caring much for him.

  • We have no 'illegal' fireworks here. So...yeah. They've tried to pass laws restricting fireworks, but no dice.

Pretty much the only thing legal here are sparklers and snakes.  Everything else is not approved.

My weekend pretty much sucked.  H worked 52 hours from Th-Su and that coupled with a few other things makes for bad communication and grumpy conversations (if there are even words).

The good?  I ran the race on Friday and I did okay considering I hadn't run for 2 weeks and was also on 6 hours of sleep.

They just made things legal here the last year or 2. I've set off more than my share of 'em, legal and not...but I was TRULY annoyed by the yahoos standing in crowds setting things off--dude, we're here for the 'real' show--have fun w/ yours, but not HERE and now.
  • I hate fireworks, honestly.  They were going off in our neighborhood, which is in the middle of the city, all weekend.  Drove the dogs insane.  We did call the cops at one point, b/c bottle rockets were landing in our yard.  At least it wasn't an insane fire hazard like it was last year, but still, drive out to where it's legal or go see a show.

Our hike went really really well.  I might do another post about that if I'm up to it..

My in-laws were in town.  My MIL shot out some real doozies this weekend that I couldn't even be nice enough to shrug off, so I was shot back the same thing at her (oh Varuna, you look rough...well MIL, that's a really horrible thing to say to your DIL).  I'm not sharing the others she said, they were too ugly.  She's just so damn thoughtless about what comes out of her mouth.  Other than those instances, it was nice seeing them.

Lots of resting and cleaning house after that.  Starting to feel like I'm pulling back together after such a busy June.

It amazes me what people think is okay to say, just because you think it.  CENSOR YOURSELF.

I'm sorry your MIL was an ass V.

I like to watch fireworks, but we haven't bothered yet.  8 pm bedtimes and 4 am wakeups don't mix with things that start at 10 pm.

  • I guess it's almost afternoon. This weekend was okay- the kids are back at daycare and I am so happy. I can't be a SAHM. TMI: The baby apparently only poops at daycare. She has not pooped since Wednesday so I fully expect to pick her up in the back up clothes. I hate our neighbors. They decided to do fireworks in the street, but on the metal sewer cover which is more or less right in front of our house. I freaking hate these douchecanoes. We didn't bother with fireworks. DS hates loud noises (even with ear protection) and I'm not trying to wrangle the baby like 2 hours after her bedtime to watch that shit.
