  • CAT LADIES, UNITE!

  • @ethereal219 -That's great Fayetteville has been good for you so far. When we lived there it was in the early 90s so I'm sure plenty of things have changed. Enjoy the military life though! It's super exciting and you get to go to so many places!

What are you going to school for? I went to UK for my master's!
I'll be starting my PhD in English :) I'm so excited to get there! Lexington is such a great city and the people are so nice.

@southernpeach89 thanks! Military life has been a bit frustrating, like when they changed Joe's orders less than 30 days out and we had to scramble and completely reorganize our summer plans, but I actually like it. I'm used to moving around all the time, and really enjoy that lifestyle, so that part isn't changing. And I've found the army to be a great community and support group.

@Swazzle @lmcooper86 yay for cat ladies! Joe slightly prefers dogs, but he's agreed with me that a cat would fit our lifestyle better, so once we're living together full time, we'll most likely end up with a cat. I'm so excited :D
  • @ethereal219 - I have 2 cats and would have 10 more if H would let me. We also have a dog. Dogs are so much more work!

  • @Swazzle that was our logic. He's in the military and so he works weird, unpredictable hours and then when I move there, I'll be writing a PhD dissertation, so I really won't have a ton of time to dedicate to taking a dog for regular walks multiple times a day and such. We're also going to be in apartments for the foreseeable future, so a yard would be really tricky to come by. But all of this means that I'm going to get my cat! In about 3 years, but still!
  • I just have one, but like @Swazzle I would have so many more if my FI would let me! Even with just one cat he still calls me a crazy cat lady...he went so far as to put a cat apron and oven mitts on our registry.

  • @ethereal219 - I have 2 cats as well! Good luck finding one!
  • You're not overly cautious...you're normal, sane, logical. As long as you and BF are on the same page with it all, take your time and enjoy! And welcome! What do you love about New Orleans? I think you said you've lived there at some point. I lived in Baton Rouge for several years and had a weekend apartment in the French Quarter. I loved the historical aspects of N.O. Especially going to the antique shops on Magazine Street. And of course, the food. :)
  • I'm just gonna leave this here...

  • Hi!  I'm also new to this board and it's nice to see another newbie come out to introduce herself.  I just started my PhD a year ago in Michigan. I have a dog and she help keeps me sane through all of it.  I say that you should go ahead and get yourself a cat.  Don't forget to post pics when you do!  Best of luck with grad school.

@Pepperally New Orleans is my favorite place in the world! I love the food, the people, all the festivals, and just the beauty of the city. I would love to move back someday! @samboenda What are you getting your PhD in? And I'd love to see a picture of your dog!
