FMIL doesn't want me to get any more tattoos.

I have 4 tattoos. All of them are in spots that can easily be hidden and they're relatively small. Yesterday I had one of my tattoos redone. It was 15 years old and faded and I wanted to change it up a little. I posted pictures on FB last night, and FMIL saw them. She's now texting me telling me not to get any more tattoos because she doesn't want me to "ruin" my "beautiful body". I'm guessing I shouldn't tell her that I'm eventually going to get a huge back piece...

I adore my FMIL. She really is like a second mother to me. But lady, it's my body! Only your son has to look at my tattoos!

While I agree she is way out of line, it comes across to me that she is genuinely trying to look out for you. She will get over the tattoos. It's great you have such a good relationship with your FMIL!

I agree with this. I doubt she meant it maliciously or in anyway trying to control you. She doesn't like tattoos and she expressed her feelings about you getting more work done which she is free to do. You are free to not listen to her. I really don't see what the big deal is cause you are going to do what you are going to do regardless. Just tell her "thanks for your concern and I appreciate that you care but I really love my tattoos and will continue to get them."

Every time I'm get a new tattoo and my great grandmother knows about it she says something similar. Great grandma is a little sexist about it though. Lol. She always follows up with "tattoos are for men they look trashy on women". Lol. I think it is funny she feels that way. Of course she is 95 so when she was growing up that is the way things were.

My mother thinks tattoos make you look like a 'jail person'...

Because her brother has jail tattoos. That he did himself. With a rigged cassette player and bic pen ink in the 80's.

The 5 I have were done by professionals. She only knows about one of them. I plan to get more visible ones soon enough. Mom is on a need-to-know basis, and she don't fuckin' need to know.

My mom tells me the same thing all the time. She hates my tattoos and thinks they're ugly and that tattoos are trashy.

Although, she has nothing to say about Fi's full sleeves. Odd.

My mom used to hate my tattoos too. I don't know what changed - she ended up getting a tattoo for her 60th birthday! My dad has two (one on each arm) and my brother has a few too, including a full sleeve. Maybe she just got used to them.

I'm happy your mom got over her hatred of tattoos. I wish my mom would realize that it is not that big of a deal, or her decision to make.

My uncle went to jail for dealing coke to someone that apparently EVERYONE KNEW his brother was a cop. So he jail tattooed himself Chip and Dale from the Disney cartoons. Dude is uh... interesting.

Ink is basically one of the best ways to express yourself. You should get a fake tattoo that says RUINED MY BODY across the top of your chest just to f*ck with her and see what she does. Totally kidding of course. (kiddingnotkidding)

So I have 10 tattoos with an appointment for another one at the end of this month. (2 large ones, a medium-ish one, and the rest are just a few inches or so) BF HATES tattoos. Does it make me a bad person that I think this is funny?? (This one at the end of the month is the last one I have planned - and promised him if I want any more we'll have a discussion and I'll take his viewpoint into consideration)

I would be very, very surprised to hear such a statement from either of my FILs - they've got a ton of tattoos. I will have to "duel it out" with them over FI's first one - they've offered to pay for it, but I'd love to pay for it too, haha, and both go (but not get the same thing - not a good choice, IMHO).

MY dad will be the one that's all "Your body is a temple you shouldn't deface it yadda yadda".

I have four. I want a big, colorful back piece. (Idea is a colorful Rorschach blot "shaped" like a tree, with a triangular open space in the middle with lines that make it look like a minimalist view of the Eiffel tower. Ties in my Alma Mater and both my majors. I'm excited. Also too damn broke for that shit.)
