I finished a while ago, but I haven't been able to post thanks to being sick. Is there a thread already?

EDIT: Okay, so this is our Book Thief thread now.

I liked it. It was surprisingly easy to read. I usually have trouble with anything war-related, but this was good. I found the format a little distracting, with the notes from Death interspersed through the story, and the bits where he tells the reader that someone's going to die, but for the next couple of sections that person is still alive... But it's a really good story, and pretty well written.

I don't think I'll watch the movie though.

  • Just read that book a few months ago - I actually loved the film version as well.  Let's get this thing started?

  • No, but this can be it!

  • I enjoyed the book I read it back in December though.  It wasn't the best thing I've read in awhile but it was entertaining.  I liked how Death was the narrator as well. I liked the movie and it stayed pretty true to the book. I cried at the end of the movie and the book.

I just finished it and enjoyed it more than I expected to. At first I thought the whole "death as the narrator for a story about the Holocaust" deal would be too clever, but it was well done. The characters were interestingly developed too. When Hans was first introduced at the very beginning, I thought he was going to turn out to be a child molester--very very very glad that was not the case!!!
  • I read the book several years ago. I remember that when I finished it, I didn't quite have the words to describe it. Saying I 'enjoyed it' or 'it was really good' didn't seem right, but it was very impactful. I also liked the movie, although I didn't remember the book clearly enough to remember what was going to happen.
