Fifty Shades trailer- will you be going?

CLICK

The trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey is out. I'm kind of intrigued. I couldn't get through the books because the writing was too simple for me. I was also trying to read them online and that never bodes well for my attention span, however the trailer kind of peaks my interest. The movie of course doesn't come out until Feb 2015.

  • Nope. I have no interest in the books and no interest in the movie.

Nope nope nope. I think I already went over my deep and abiding dislike of the 50 Shades books in one of the threads from last week....

  • Nope. I've got a lot more movies I'd rather spend my money on.
  • I will be going! I actually was just watching the trailer before seeing this. I know this is an UO around here but then again I was one that went to midnight premieres for all the Twilight movies..
    friends tv show funy
  • Haha @caseface5, I went to the premieres for Twilight and New Moon, stopped and never saw the last few.

  • I watched the trailer, not going to lie. But I probably won't see the movie. I read the books and they were HORRIBLE.

I think by the time this movie comes out, the whole Fifty Shades trend will die (it's dying now) and the movie will tank.

AND WHY IS BEYONCE GIVING HER MUSIC TO THIS MOVIE?????? BEY, WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Negative. I haven't read the books and have no desire to read the books.

  • Not interested.  I never read the books but also don't have much of a desire to.

I think 11/22/63 would be an awesome, albeit horrifically long, movie though.  And heck, I'm only on page 271.  Right, @swazzle?  Right.  I might just derail all the threads today :)  Or just stop replying in threads because I'm reading (that seems more likely)

  • I will not be interested in seeing the movie. I never read the books, not my genre really. I actually thought that the trend died? I haven't heard about 50 shades in FOREVER.
  • I was actually just going to start a Confessions thread because of this very thing.

If I had no idea about the books, I would probably be intrigued enough by the trailer to see the movie. I think Beyonce's new version of "Crazy in Love" helps A LOT.

However, there is no way I will give my money to anything involving this sad excuse for "writing."

I agree with Blue - they need to make 11/22/63 into a movie. I'm not even done with it yet, and I think it would be a phenominal film.

  • I struuuuuuuuuugled to get through the first book. I hate not finishing a book even if it's awful. I refuse to read the other two books. I will not be going to see the movie. If it eventually makes it to HBO, I might watch it if I happen upon it, but I won't seek it out.

  • @GoldenPenguin the only problem with 11/22/63 is that it keeps sucking me in before bedtime and I'm TIRED, dangit.  I'm starting a confessions thread.  You're welcome.

  • I only go to the theater for action movies....more for the surround effect.

If I watch anything else I just wait for Redbox or HBO. (or SO to download it....shhhh)

  • Highly doubtful.  I tried to read the books.  I got passed the first one but really struggled to finish (I will usually finish a book from cover to cover in a night...this one took me about two weeks).  Thought the second one would be better because of all the hype.  Nope...gave up a few chapters into the second one.

  • @TwoDimes If only you knew how much Top Gun is quoted in our household lol. H LOVES that movie!

I thought that exact same thing the entire time I was reading! I think it'd would make such a great movie but it'd need to fall into the right hands because I think it could be easily butchered.

I really wasn't kidding when I said I woke up Saturday and Sunday and read on my couch ALL. DAY. LONG.

  • Nope no interest either.

Oh man, I hadn't even read the Twilight books when my college roommates convinced me to go to the midnight showing of the first movie. . . After that, it was just tradition, and we went to the midnight premiere of every single one. Even after I had graduated for the last one, two of us traveled 3 hours so we could all get together, if only one last time. That's the only thing I'm thankful to Twilight for.
  • No thanks. But have you guys seen the Fifty Shades of Chicken cookbook? FI and I found it in a bookstore and took turns reading it aloud. It's pretty hilarious.

Definitely. And Stephen King would HAVE to be involved so that his vision was continued. He loves being involved with the adaptations of his books, so I would think that would be a thing.

  • No. I tried to read the first book, I didn't make it past the first chapter it was so poorly written. Also, I refuse to give money to someone who not only plagiarized (seriously, how has she not been sued?) but who I can't believe was actually published over individuals who are better writers.

  • You guys are seriously making me want to read 11/22/63. It's on my Kindle, I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I love books like that though, and I've been wanting to read something that I just can't put down. The last few books I've read have been good, but I haven't been dying to read each chapter.

  • Dang. I just watched the trailer. That movie's going to be awful awful awful. I'll maybe watch it if it ever shows up on netflix streaming and I get super high first. Jamie Dornan is at least 60% less attractive without facial hair.

    The song was awesome though!

Apparently I'm the oddball out here.  I've read all three books.  They were HORRIBLY written, but I actually enjoyed them for what they were:  mindless smut and an occasional lukewarm sex scene.

Although I think they were horrible pieces of writing, I do think they helped society break down some of the taboo issues about sex and sexuality.  They started a discussion.

As for the trailer, eh, I can't see that guy as Christian Grey.  I just can't.  And I'm fairly positive that Christian Grey is supposed to be a redhead...soooooo...wtf happened?  I really don't think I'd go to a theater to watch that type of movie.  It's just too...private.  The same way I'd never go to a theater to watch a porno.  No way I'd risk some heavy breathing sicko sitting next to me.  If I were to watch it, I'd likely wait for it to come out on Netflix and then watch it in the privacy of my own home.

No plans. I think Jamie Dornan is very attractive, but the positive interest I have in seeing him in various states of undress is outweighed by the sheer amount of negative interest I have in seeing anything else. Also, I don't want to spend moneys.

  • I have not read the books. I tried. I got through the first 40 or so pages, and it just wasn't something I wanted to spend my time reading. However, I will totally be seeing the movie. I don't think I will spend the money to see it in a theater. I will just wait to rent it.

I love that you mentioned this. As a culture, we are exceptionally more open about sexuality and sex. Advertisements are very sexual (I don't love this, but it is a fact of life.), we read about sexuality in magazines and online, and a lot of people are open to exploring their sexuality. However, we are still failing to openly discuss sex and sexuality in "real life". A lot of our acceptance of sex and sexuality is still behind "closed doors". This book totally torn down those walls. I loved seeing people read the book in public and talk about it with their friends. That is how it should be. I mean..still keep that TMI stuff to yourself, but you get what I am trying to say.
