Need some knottie vibes

My mom is in the operating room right now getting a knee replacement.    Unfortunately, she has a host of other medical issues that could case some issues during the recovery.

An other note, does anyone on here have RA?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • Dad just text.  She is out of surgery and it went well.  Now it's time for the recovery and rehab.  That is where it might get tricky.

  • I'm across the country.  All I can do is send vibes.  My dad is the saint who gets to spend the next month with her (he works in China and Indy).       At least their bedroom is on the first floor,  It also has a huge walk-in shower with a bench.  Plus there are other [extended] family around to help out.

My sister is a few hours away and is going to bring the kids down to play Phase 10 and other games with her next weekend.

My husband's 83 year old mother recently had a knee replacement. She has arthritis as well (not sure what type) and heart problems. It was a long recovery process but she did really well. She was able to use the bathroom by herself and bathe herself etc pretty early on.

After she recovers, your Mom will be convinced that this was the best thing that could have happened to her.  My DH is currently out hiking with his senior citizen buddies (Thank you, God, for getting him out of my hair for awhile!), and half of them have had knee replace4ments or even hip replacements.  DH bullies me about my lack of exercise.  I need a new knee, but it hasn't bothered me since going off some of my anti-cancer medication.
Those rehab exercises are very important!  My mother refused to do them, and she had to have her knee re-done.

  • I'm so glad it went well! How is she feeling? How long will rehab be?

FMIL recently got a procedure done on her knee, and will eventually need a replacement.

  • My mom is the very definition of special snowflake. Everything is extreme with her. She has RA very badly. Then she is some 100+ overweight. Then she has every complication you can imagine as a result of the meds. Plus she has asthma, sleep apnea, the list is way too long. She also doesn't want any advice. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Like after doing a lot of research, I will say "mom have you looked into changing your diet? I've read where some people with RA have had some success with cutting out gluten."--------------------------------------------------------------------- Mom - " I know a woman who tried and it didn't work". ---------------------------------------------------------------- Me "umm. Okay, but these 50 people did find some relieve. Why not try it for 30 days to see?".. Mom- "nope, I read it's make no difference" .-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- She like that with every subject. 1 million people will find 'x' helpful, but she will find the 1 person who said it doesn't work and will dismiss even trying. As you can see it drives me crazy. Mostly because I see she is in such pain and it's hard to watch. But also being something like GF for a month doesn't seem much of a sacrifice if the results end up helping me. If it doesn't help, no big deal, back to eating gluten on day 31.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
