Anyone ever been to Medieval Times?

We are going to the Medieval Times restaurant/dinner theater dealie deal on vacation.  For anyone who has been, or who has kids. . . . . would it be ok for a 1.5 year old.  I'm thinking yes because there is a lot to see and do, and tons of space in the lobby area if he gets restless, not to mention it's generally loud in case he decides to babble or get fussy, but i'm not sure.

Re: Anyone ever been to Medieval Times?

  • Is your child easily scared? There is real (or "real") jousting and it is noisy; not all children are ok in that environment.  If your child is ok around 4th of July fireworks I'd suspect they'd be ok at MT too.

I don't have kids but based on my experiences there, I think you'll be fine.

I've been a few times...but I wouldn't take my kids until they're older.  It's lots of fun, but it's loud, unpredictable and somewhat expensive to miss out on because a small child is being fussy.

My kids are 6 & 7 and I want to take them because I know they're at an age where they can appreciate it - and allow me to appreciate it too.

FI has never been and I just booked tickets yesterday for us to go during our honeymoon.

    IT'S AWESOME!!!!
  • I would say very much no. I've been about five times and when my son was 3 it was a bit boring and scary.

Personally I think there are much better attractions in the Orlando/Kissimmee area than Medieval Times, but that's just me. There are areas you can take him if he decided it was too loud/scary, but that would be a bummer since it's so expensive (especially for what you get) and I wouldn't recommend keeping a crying kid in the viewing area, it's not loud enough that it would not upset other paying guests. I would recommend Arabian Nights (same owner as Medieval) but I just Googled it and it's closed permanently :(

  • I went once with a couple girlfriends and we loved it! None of us have kids though, so it was mostly us drinking margaritas out of "chalices" and taking pictures with cute knights.

I have to say, the youngest kids I saw were easily 7-8 years old. It does get loud, crowded and it's definitely unpredictable. Also, it's a little difficult to get up from your dinner seats if you have to leave because your son is being fussy, they really fill those seats (just as an additional thought).

For a child that age, it's probably going to be too much. There's loud noises, weird lighting, a major sensory overload.

For ages 10+... ZOMG IT'S THE BEST!!

ETA: So they choose a 'Queen of Love and Beauty' or something, and I went with a friend and her mom when I was 11. She got chosen, and got flowers and a crown and I was LIVID. Just sharing.

  • I went when I was a teenager. From what I remember, it's not a super toddler-friendly place, but if he doesn't get scared and you don't let him get away from you than I think it's alright.

  • Are you coming to Orlando? You said vacation but didn't specifically say Orlando. If so let me know, I specialize in review of places to go in Orlando for children and families. I have written about Medieval Times twice. I used to have my blog link in my siggy but removed it last month. I have an entire "Local" section (because I live here). I've also lived here for 25 years. Let me know if I can be of any help!

I remember going to this for my birthday or something when I was a kid and I got to be the Queen of Love and Beauty! I got a little sash and got to go onstage where the king and queen sat. I felt SO cool.

  • I would think at that age, it could be scary.  I went to the one at the Excalibur in Vegas... and I think they are all pretty much the same. There are mini explosions, the fake stabbing of each other, loud noises, etc.  It could be really traumatic for a little one that age. (not PTSD traumatic.. just "holy shit.. not safe, not safe!!!" trauma)
