Hello Ladies!!
First, I'd like to congratulate everyone who is engaged, or thinking about getting engaged. I know that I am beyond excited, because not only do I get to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate, I also have the most beautiful ring ever
(well, to ME it is!)
So basically, I did A LOT of research about morganite engagement rings. I literally sat infront of my computer for weeks obsessing over cut, color, setting, etc. My fiance was not going to buy me a ring without my approval (because well, it's a really large investment), and so after researching and researching online, I ended up in a Zales, discovering something that no one really told me in the first place.
DO NOT BUY A MORGANITE RING AS A CHEAP ALTERNATIVE. I put that in caps, because that was the assumption that I had going into getting my ring, as I am a very thrifty person in general. I had no idea that a quality morganite ring was going to be pretty expensive.
I had it narrowed down to two rings, an absolutely perfect ring that had a larger price tag (like a MUCH larger price tag), and a similar ring that was of less quality but MUCH MUCH cheaper. I wanted to be responsible, and pick the cheaper ring. I wanted morganite because it was beautiful, but also because it wasn't as expensive as other options. So, instead of going with the really expensive (perfect) morganite ring, I settled for the cheaper one, assuming that it wouldn't matter.
But it did. I hated that ring.
At first, I was so thrilled I found such a beautiful ring at such a great price. It was almost exactly what I envisioned. Then I got the ring back from sizing. I wore it for a week, and I hated it. It felt wrong. It didn't feel bridal. It felt like a pretty ring, but I didn't feel like it was my engagement ring. Plus it looked MUCH better in the store.
After lots of tears, my wonderful understanding fiance went with me to return to the ring, and get the more expensive morganite e-ring I fell in love with the first time.
I learned that just because a ring was morganite, didn't mean it was going to be cheaper than a regular diamond ring. Morganite rings can be pretty expensive when it comes to getting a good quality ring. Mine was over $1,000.
The second misconception of morganite rings is the durability; I am not a very rough person. I work in an office, I don't like to get dirty, I wash my hands a lot. I am not the perfect picture of someone that needs a durable ring. I am careful with it, and mindful that I am wearing it, so I haven't had a problem with durability.
It does however, get cloudy easily. But, its easy to clean; just use a soapy non-abrasive cloth and it will sparkle like new.
I love my morganite ring; it's timeless, beautiful, and I've even had people tell me that it's "extraordinary"
Go with your gut ladies! (and don't use Morganite as a cheap alternative, I promise that if you do, you'll hate it)
btw, my ring is a cushion cut peach Morganite stone, with a rose gold setting, and 1/5 ct diamond halo. It's perfect
