Re: And sometimes wedding insurance isn't enough

  • "...destruction of the place where their love began, showed them that love is all they need in the end."

So, then why aren't they just accepting what happened and having a less expensive, low key ceremony? It totally sucks to have your wedding ruined, but as the article said, many people have it much worse from the fire. I find it rude that they are soliciting money to cover changed wedding plans when a whole community is suffering.

“[Our situation] is nothing compared to the devastation that’s happened over there,” Epsom added.

Right.  So why aren't you donating the proceeds of that GFM account?

I'd be pissed if I bought wedding insurance though, and they wouldn't cover it.  The wedding venue was destroyed by a natural disaster-- isn't that exactly what wedding insurance is supposed to cover?

  • I have immediate family who has property up in that area. its been very scary dealing with the natural disaster. It sucks for them, but I feel like planning a wedding in Eastern Washington, you should kind of keep a fire in the back of your mind. Just like I am getting married on Puget Sound in October.....could be raining, could be a tsunami...whatever.

  • Wait...you mean losing your wedding venue isn't nearly as bad as losing your home and all your possessions?

I find also find publicly soliciting funds for a wedding in this circumstance to be incredibly distasteful. Shame on them.

  • To be accurate, it was friends who set up gofundme, not the couple. According to the fundraising site, they did get another venue, across the water from Seattle on Vashon Island. http://www.gofundme.com/c2llrw. The wedding is tomorrow and people were already arriving from various points on the globe--rescheduling the date wasn't going to happen. But their original website is still up and the registry would cause a few to have hives. alisonbrianmountainwedding.com

I looked at their registry. 1. They registered for a fire safe... That is Alanis Morissette ironic. 2. Why are there shoes? And bras? And fish?
  • That is unfortunate.  Oddly enough, it sounds like their relationship had a few bumps in the road...  High winds, winter storms...yikes.  At least they are safe.

@wegl13  What??  Fish?  Bras??  I just noticed a $134 coffee maker...  I have never seen a registry like this before...

  • Ugh, "house down payment" registry at Zola.

But seriously, yeah, I side-eye the creation of the GFM less because friends started it.  However, they still included it in that article for which they were interviewed.

Oh well.  Seems like they have made some common faux pas but they are nice people whose wedding got ruined.  I hope they have a great time tomorrow.
