Apropo wanting kids...

  • Congrats! And yeah, the pill is only 99% effective because of user error. Even missing one pill can let your body stealth ovulate.

    Congrats to you, too!

  • Wow congratulations! I know how scary this must be when it wasn't planned or expected, but you'd be how surprised we are capable of adjusting to things. Enjoy this new phase in your life!

  • Y'all all makin' babies! YAY!

(That is not quite how I usually talk. But excitement does that to me IRL, so I felt you should get the appropriately excited net equivalent. Imagine caps as squealy noises and put your best Southern Twang on it.) :D

I'm curious how one missed pill caused you to get pregnant though. Did you take it once you realized it?

I didn't take it once I realized, because I wasn't going to see FI for a week, and sometimes taking two pills in one day gives me cramps. I don't know, it could be unrelated :/
I know that the pill is only 99% effective, but it's still very rare to be a perfect pill user and get pregnant, unless your body chemistry is incompatible with the pill.

Honestly, the fact that you missed a pill makes me feel better.  I have been on the pill for 10 years, and never had a pregnancy scare. I'm also on medication that causes birth defects, so I really can't get pregnant until I get off it (hopefully by next year!)

It sounds like your happy, so that's all that matters. I wish you and your baby a healthy easy pregnancy.

But guys this is why you need to take all of your pills in a pack, and if you miss one you need to take it as soon as you remember, even if that means 2 pills at the same time.

First of congratulations!  I'm glad that he took it well and that you guys are both happy.  My boyfriends daughter was very much unplanned(side note that I remind my younger brother and his friends of often, just because she says she can't get pregnant doesn't make it true) and he's never regretted having her, even if it was young, and if it weren't for her we may not even be together.

Also, no offense, but this helps re-enforce my decision to ask my OB/GYN about Implanon at my next appointment.  I've been on the pill for 11 years, and been lucky but I tend to suck at remembering and I almost never take it the same time everyday.  A 3 year old is plenty for me at the moment.

@huskypuppy14 I hope you don't mind me asking, and feel free not to answer or pm me if you want, but is the medication Acutane by any chance?  I'm not even sure if they still prescribe it but I remember when I was on it on the back of every pill in the foil pack there was a picture of a pregnant woman with the no smoking so over her.  We were finding those little pregnant ladies all over the house for years haha

Nope not Acutane. I was lucky to never have bad acne. I don't think I would ever take Acutane, I've heard such bad things about it.

  • @huskypuppy14 Yea I don't blame you, like I said I wasn't even sure if they prescribed it anymore. I was on it 14 years ago and there were a lot of crappy side effects and I remember having to go in for monthly blood tests to make sure everything was still functioning(don't remember exactly what organ, system etc but couldn't have been a good thing). I remember my parents were very hesitant to put me on it, especially because I was the minimum age and I doubt they would have had they known what we know now. Luckily I was only on it for a short amount of time and I went from having extremly bad acne to just normal run of the mill crappy skin haha Actually my mother told me years later that she was partly glad I was on it when I was because she would have been nervous about me having kids even within a few years of taking it. Yea.....I really don't blame people for not taking it haha

  • Well, I'm 33 years old (FI is 35). He has a stable, well paying job. I'm finishing up grad school this semester, so the last few months I'll be in a good position to take care of myself and relax. I don't have any jobs lined up after that, so I'll just stay home with the baby for a year or so. Our wedding is in October, so since I won't be very far along, it won't change any of our plans. We're actually in a really good position to have a baby. Maybe after baby is born i'll look into an IUD :)
