OTAKON in Baltimore this weekend?

Any nerds headed for this?  My son is working on his costume/special effect make up.

  • Oh, OK.  My son does lectures on prosthetic makeup.  Bring a single girlfriend for me?  The guy needs a good woman!

  • Ha ha. I would if I could! Almost none of my friends are single anymore., and those that are aren't nerds.

  • My shower was originally scheduled for next weekend until I found out that both my FSIL's are going. Obviously I want them there so the date was changed to this weekend (!!!!) Their costumes are always really cool, though, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they've got.

  • I wish I could go. The only con locally is really small.

Several years ago, my daughter was in a costume that was quite spectacular.  The Japanese author who created the warrior character was a guest, and was enchanted.  They were photographed together.  Of course, this was before marriage and motherhood took over her life.
Her wedding was July 23, and was scheduled to avoid Otakon weekend.  If you remember a spectacular, six foot tall woman - that was probably her!  One year, she stopped traffic on the street dressed as The Bride from Kill Bill.

  • I need to learn how to sew so I can properly cosplay.

  • This is what motivated my daughter to learn.  She spent several years making an historically authentic Renaissance gown for herself.  Now she copies pictures from Vogue.  It's hard to find clothes that really fit when you are six feet tall!
