What's for dinner?

FI is gone (Vegas for work, lucky bastard). He hates mustard and dislikes pierogies (I KNOW, but I'm marrying him anyway) so I'm taking advantage of my opportunity to eat things he hates and making this.

Whatcha got cookin'?

Re: What's for dinner?

  • Depends on if DH comes home.  If yes, then steak.  If no, that I'm having salad and maybe some boiled eggs on the side.  Too hot and lazy to cook

  • LOL @JCBride2015 you earned that bad boy! I am, in fact, having one as well! Intern brought in more of the organic margaritas his family member's company makes. Good intern, we've trained you well.

  • I'm making shortcut chicken curry.  Which reminds me that I have to get tomato paste from the store.  Ugh I don't wan to leave the AC in the apartment, screw Chicago weather.

@JCBride2015 You go girl! I'll be having a jack and coke in your honor tonight!

  • Tangerine-glazed chicken thighs, green beans, and some kind of pasta side dish. Black cherry ice cream with chocolate syrup for dessert.

  • @ Cookie Pusher   You made desert?!!!! Ugh, I'm so not as cool as you.  Desert is never in my house.   Sounds yummy though!

  • Just settled it.  Salad and hard boiled eggs it is.  :(

  • I made a huge meal yesterday and don't feel like cooking tonight. We decided to order pasta for delivery.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    Whatever my husband cooks. :)

I can cook, but he puts a lot more effort into it than I do.  It will take him 2+ hours to prep and grill steak, all his spices are bought directly from whatever country does it best (some things I've never heard of), every ingredient has to be fresh, etc.  So he is our designated chef.  But, I would take his steak or chicken over anything at a restaurant any day. Although, I did surprise him and made marinated lemon rosemary chicken the other day (I even used fresh rosemary and real lemons)... otherwise, my go-to chicken breast involves sprinkling on some salt & pepper and putting it in oven set to broil.

But, there are a lot of things he won't eat.  So if he's out of town or working late, I usually will cook pasta (he won't eat ANY pasta) or Chinese food.

  • We moved this week. The new house has gas appliances. Unfortunately, there is a leak somewhere in our gas line, so they can't turn the gas on until it gets fixed. So, I'm guessing we are continuing our 5 day streak of going out to eat. Or (the more likely scenario), being lazy and getting Chinese delivery.

If by making dessert you mean I went to the grocery store and bought a container of ice cream and pulled chocolate syrup out of the freezer, then yes, I made dessert. lol It's way too humid for me to bake anything tonight, otherwise we'd be having Irish Car Bomb cupcakes!
    ~*~*~*~*~

  • @ Cookie Pusher any desert is good, even if it's from the store!  But those cupcakes sound really good too. Ugh I love to bake, but I hate our oven when its this hot out.  I never bake anything as fancy as Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes though.  I think I'll borrow the Doctors Tardis so I can have some.

  • My town is actually like 50% Polish so we have two festivals each year that sell the absolute best home made pierogis.

I just made this Olive Garden Parmesan shrimp pasta bake mmmmm

  • Homemade macaroni and cheese with a pancetta/ caramelized sweet onion/ grated cheese topping. (There are very strict laws about not just picking off the crispy brown top and eating it.) Caesar salad. Wine for me.
Moosey will be busy sneaking the crisp crust off a bite at a time for the rest of the night, so a quiet night for me.

  • Mmmmmmm so hungry! Waiting at work for DH to pick me up and let me eat!

We have gotten in the habit lately of making a few different meals on Sunday and Monday evenings that we can eat for the whole week. We realized after the wedding that we are just way too damn tired and busy to cook each night after work. So tonight we have garlic chicken with roasted veggies and crusty bread. Or maybe I will cook up the eggplant I prepped and make eggplant parmesan.

  • I got a rude reality check about how much food I keep around, especially in my freezer, so I am eating one of my frozen meals that made it through my refrigerator meltdown - Bird's Eye Chicken Florentine.

Plus I will be traveling tomorrow and Sunday - Wednesday, so I won't have much time to make stuff at home in the next week.

  • This thread is making me soo hungry! My FI is currently on the phone ordering Chinese for delivery. I've been craving pork wontons all day.

I also love pierogies - though the FI won't make them without me begging, says they are too unhealthy.

While I wait for the Chinese to arrive, I'm sipping on yummy wine and nibbling on m&ms. :)

I make ICB cupcakes pretty regularly. They aren't any more complicated than making any other cupcakes from scratch (except the chopping the chocolate part, but I just started freezing and then grating the bars so it goes faster). I also make a lot of fudge, which always seems much fancier than the effort required - I just use the standard Carnation recipe but do different flavor combinations like dark chocolate lime or spiced butterscotch.

  • I did seasoned pork cutlets, with a wild rice/quinoa/lentil medley, and salad...oh, and beer.
    Yay beer.
  • We're moving FSIL across country for grad school tomorrow, leaving crazy early. FI, FSIL, and their friend are out loading the trailer while I'm at home, finishing my work for the day, making dinner, and cleaning. FMIL is staying at our place while we're gone to watch Maury the Pit so it needs to be clean.

Since I have no idea when people will show up, I've got pulled pork in the crockpot, a bag of tortilla chips, half-assed slaw, and half-assed strawberry shortcake.

Half-assed slaw: 1/2 pre-made slaw, 1/2 shredded cabbage. There's always more than enough creamy stuff so this extends it while cutting the fat.

Half-assed strawberry shortcake: store bought angel food cake, strawberries macerating in a bit of sugar, and the bottle of balsamic glaze that's sitting in the fridge. I'd add shredded mint or basil if I had it, I'm just too lazy to go out.

Spaghetti. Because I just got home and I'm already starving and I don't really know how to cook. I really wish I had stopped for pizza or KFC.
Cooking is easy peasy! Just need practice with simple recipes to get a hang of how much and what types of seasonings go well together, and how long various things take to cook.

  • 2 scoops of whey and some almond milk. Blah

All your all food sounds delish!
  • Cookie's ice cream sounded yummy, so I got some coconut milk vanilla bean ice cream that I'll have over grilled apples later. I might even have some caramel sauce. For now, I'm stuffed with pierogies. Yum yum yum!

I know a few recipes. BBQ baked chicken, breaded baked chicken, southwest crockpot chicken, chicken and rice, and chicken fried rice/stir fry/terriyaki/whatever you want to call it. That's it.
You sound like my FI, who makes: baked chicken. Baked chicken cut up in spaghetti. Baked chicken cut up with peppers. Baked chicken cut up with peppers in a tortilla.

You need to mix it up, girl!
