NWR: Extreme diet grumpiness.

Re: NWR: Extreme diet grumpiness.

  • No, you are not a wuss. It is a really, really, really terrible idea to start an extreme workout and an extreme diet at the exact same time. Your body is already being pushed to the max and now you (general you) are depriving it of the foods it's used to making energy from?! Your muscles and metabolism are going to tell you "Fuck no!!!" is what will happen. Yes, we probably could all stand to eat less pasta, but making two huge changes in your body's routine at the same time will leave you grumpy, tired, craving mass amounts of all the bad stuff you'd normally be fine with eating minimally or in moderation.

If you can still participate, I'd start with committing to the exercise and SLOWLY work more positive changes into your diet. Not having that extra glass of wine, making more room for protein and veggies on your plate, and making the zucchini pasta because you genuinely want to try it. While you're working out and paying attention to how you feel you'll likely be more inclined to make better food choices anyway, with or without a food log.

That said, food journals and extreme changes do help people who need them. My dad who was morbidly obese for many years changed his lifestyle completely and stuck with it, all thanks to an extreme diet and a food log. But he was in such severe shape that he had to lose weight before he could even think about doing any kind of exercise.

And finally, you should not be allowed to marry an Italian man if you're not eating real pasta :) You can fit plenty of zucchini in between layers of lasagna made of whole grain pasta.

Most of the time if you are already eating healthy than adding the exercise routine is the only boost you need.  Judging by the avocado on rice cake breakfast which you like, I think you're already eating pretty good.  (BTW what is with people and avocados?  I just can't like them.  Feel free to hate me for this. ;)

How you LIVE?  Avocado toast is my life.  With an egg on top.

    And guacamole.  Guacamole!

    And quinoa salad with avocados!

  • @JCbride2015 I just can't do it, I worked for a very long time in day cares and avocado just reminds me of Baby food, the gross processed kind. My dad makes homemade Guac from scratch and I still just can't do it. It's a texture thing though for me when I do happen to accidentally get some on a burger or salad.

I find other ways to eat healthy, well kinda healthy.  The healthiest thing I eat for breakfast is whole grain blueberry bagel with cream cheese and cinnamon sugar mix on top, with a side of fruit and a hard boiled egg.   I have this everyday, and stay away from soda and fast food and chips, plus I don't like chocolate or sweets (you may hate me for this too ;)

  • @cwradford I also don't like chocolate or sweets. My ideal dessert is fruit. Occasionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

YAAAY! Someone else who understands! Now that I think about it I think that was in your OP, must have missed it.  But yaaaay . I love fruit for desert.  I've tried talking FI out of his Oreo Cupcake idea and just have fruit and Vanilla ice cream for dessert, but he wants cake =(   Sigh, I'm going to have to fake that I like cake for my cake cutting.

I think people like us who don't like sweets should be automatically opted out of stupid extreme diets like the one that goes with the boot camp.  We obviously know what we're doing, hehe.

I mean, I'm about 5 pounds overweight right now and my size 6 jeans are giving me love handles.  So, I am looking forward to getting active again and watching my snacking more.  But it's not like I have massive weight to lose!  No need for extreme measures.

Girl extreme is just that: EXTREME.  I'm sure you're imagining those 5 lbs =)  you look great and are just imagining those pounds due to all the hard work you put into passing the bar. Once you get back into an exercise routine, and start feeling healthy and accomplished, you will probably feel like rubbing your Boot camp instructor's face in the fact that you did it without the diet.
