Greece Wedding

Does anyone have any sense for budgeting and costs for a wedding in a Greek island?

    Hello!

We got married in Greece in July 2012 in a small village in Northern Greece. After checking other locations with a local wedding planner [Marina Charitopoulou @ www.concept-events.gr] we decided on the small village for sentimental reasons (family origin). We also had a large number of guests (350!) so we realized that our options were limited by that.

We thought about having the wedding in Skiathos Island but it would be difficult for our guests to attend. Marina proposed some other locations close to Thessaloniki – were the majority of the guests would come from – that had the island “feeling”.

There was a venue in Thessaloniki next to the water with the most amazing view ever – it feels like you are on a boat in the middle of the sea - but couldn't accommodate the large number of guests we had.

We checked locations in Chalkidiki – an hour drive from Thessaloniki by car. It has nice locations for a wedding in Greece with decent prices, nice food and some of the best beaches in the country. Check out Afytos village.

You can find low cost direct flights from the UK to Thessaloniki airport. Aegean Airlines has seasonal direct flights to Thessaloniki. You'll get better prices during May/October and during weekdays. It also depends how far in advance you'll book everything.

In any case, no matter which place you choose, I would advise you to get in touch with a local wedding planner. Let them know were you want to get married, the number of guests, the date and what kind of wedding you want. Oh, and let them know your budget from the beginning ever roughly. If you cannot afford a 50 euros meal per person there is no point in checking out places that offer that. You'll save time from checking out options you cannot afford at the end. It made our wedding planning experience easier. :)

    Good luck with everything!

    G.
