Gah! Two of my invites didn't arrive.

One of my very good friends lives in OH. I made sure to send her a STD since she'd have to travel. She booked her flight a few months ago. And then her invite never arrived! Another of our other friends contacted me and asked if Karen will still invited. I said of course! I guess Karen thought I decided not to invite her?! Ugh. I feel terrible. I emailed her this morning. Apparently she just moved across the hall into another apartment. All of her mail is being forwarded, but this still didn't arrive.

We also sent an invite to FI's step-sister's mother. FMIL gave me the wrong adddress. Not only did that invite not arrive, but it never came back to us. And she lives only 30 minutes away from us in the same state. I guess it's just roaming around NY somewhere.

  • Maybe you should buy her a fake passport to make it up to her. :-p

  • I am going to pretend I didn't read this post. I am super paranoid about my invitations getting lost.

I was really paranoid about it too!
  • Yup. Happened to me too with at least one invite. Luckily it was for a good friend of mine and I texted her the day I mailed them to let her know they were going out. She still hasn't gotten it. So now I get to send another one. Sigh.

  • I have zero confidence in the mail due to my job.  It is August and the company I work for is still getting W2s that were sent out in January back as undeliverable from the post office.  It has taken them 8 months to figure out that they couldn't deliver it.

I have a friend in my same town who moved right around the time my invites were sent.  She told me to send it to the "old" address because they weren't for sure on when they were moving.  Everything is being forwarded.  Invites went out the last week of June and she still hasn't received it.
  • For mail to get back to you, someone has to send it back. At my townhouse there is this big pile of mail for other residents. I am the only one who does anything about it, about once a month I go through and write "Not at this address" on them. One time one of them still came back. But if it wasn't for me that big pile would just sit there. I hope all of ours get there! They are going in the mail today

I had a stamp made for just this reason. My old apartment got endless mail for previous tenants. I just stamped them quickly and went on my way. I actually kept it in the mailbox so it was always there. The postwoman thought I was a weirdo but appreciated it.

This is what screws up the post office and everyone else. When I got married I moved to a different house on the same street so the only change in my address was the last digit of the house number.  No one could comprehend this.  Some days they sent my mail and DH's to his house.  Some days they sent my mail and his mail to my old house.  Some days they sent mine to his house and his to my house.  Finally a mail carrier saw DH one day and asked where the mail was supposed to go.  I guess the official forwarding order I turned in was too difficult to follow.  I had other places basically refuse to change my address because they would look at the form I changed it on and say "oh you are on the same street".  Because apparently there is only one house on every street.  I would have to get them to read the entire address they had in their computers and the entire address I had written on the new form to get them to understand that I had moved.

  • At least five of our invites never made it to their intended recipients. Luckily they were people who knew the date and made plans to come anyway. But I was super annoyed about it.

  • That's weird but at least you got to know they didn't receive their invites! @Inkdancer I'm totally paranoid too and three of my invites never made it to my guests in the US. I was hoping Canada Post would be better than that. What a disappointment. We'll have to do a follow up with guests I guess.

  • I just received an RSVP card mailed from the UK. Our friends down the block have not yet received theirs. Who knows what's going on?
