Engagement Photo Outfits. Need help deciding.

Hello!

I am having some issues deciding on the outfits my fiance' and I should wear for our engagement photo session on August 23rd, 2014. Side note: My fiance' told me to just tell him what he needs to wear so that is why I am picking his outfits out.
Here's what I have so far:

At the fire department he works at: I will wear a mint color bow back shirt with jeans (rolled up) with white wedges and a pale pink statement necklace. He will wear his fire department t-shirt with the bunker gear pants.

At our outdoor wedding venue at the gazebo: I will wear a yellow sundress with white sandals and he will wear a grey polo with either jeans and boots or shorts and Sperrys (Need help with this one. Not sure which one he should wear.) Our wedding colors are yellow and grey, so I thought this would be cute doing it at the wedding venue with our colors.

At a local park that has a huge water feature (Falls Park in Greenville SC): I know I don't want to wear a dress here because I want this to be our active shoot. So I've thought about wearing a white top with light blue shorts and maybe some gold colored sandals. However, I would love for him to wear a black, white, and dark blue plaid button up he has with jeans. He looks SO good in plaid button ups and jeans. My issue is that if he is wearing a button up with jeans and I'm wearing shorts its going to look weird (the balance of clothing.) Should he wear something else?

I'm wanting our shoot to be not so "fall season" because these photos will be used on the wedding invitations. The wedding is May 17,2015.
Sorry if this is super confusing. Thanks for any suggestions and ideas!

  • Everything you plan sounds lovely. You sound a little on overload and that you're overthinking a lot. I would just really like to encourage you to relax a little in your planning. It sounds like you're thorough and just wanted some validation (which is absolutely fine!) but you can trust yourself with these decisions :)
  • How much action is going on in these shot? Lol... they sound great. Just as long as they're all "you."

This sounds a lot like what we are planning to do! I think everything you have already sounds great. I think if you wear shorts and FI wears pants that would be fine. It's the same as you wearing a dress and him wearing pants.

  • I think the firefighter in uniform for e-pics is too cute!! I went back and forth on the plaid thing too and I don't think we're going to do it because my outfit clashed as well and I didn't want to sacrifice mine :P Sounds like you'll have a good variety.

  • I'm not great at visualizing these kinds of things. It sounds lovely. My piece of advice would be to stay as classic as possible for at least one set of pictures. I love me a good statement necklace but they are a current trend. If at least one set of pictures has you in an outfit that won't date you too much when you look back in 20 years, then I'd say you're good to go. If you go with a yellow sundress, have FI wear shorts and Sperrys.

  • I like it.

    1) I would opt for shorts and sperrys at the gazebo.
    2) I think your waterfall outfits sound fine - I don't think jeans would look weird, but if he's wearing shorts at the gazebo, why can't he wear shorts here. Especially if they're "action shots" as you say (I'm really not sure what that entails) he may be more comfortable in shorts.

Everything sounds fine and I wouldn't worry about it anymore. :)

  • Thank you all so much! I am a huge perfectionist so every detail get attention, sometimes that makes me go on overload! hah! When I referred to action shots I meant like piggy-back rides, sitting on the ground shots, etc. rather than walking, standing, etc.

Again thank y'all so much! I really appreciate it!
  • One thing you may want to think about is, "are these outfits we would wear, or are we just wearing these because we are having our pics made"  Your ideas sound great so far, but you just want to make sure your personality shines through! :) Love the fireman pic idea.. very cute!

  • White might not be a good idea, you could end up in the water. I recently saw some engagement shots that were spontaneous in a fountain. I could see that happening here (depending on you and the type of falls)
