I'm horrible- no birthday present for hubby

Re: I'm horrible- no birthday present for hubby

  • My late mother was obsessive about gifts.  I spent so much time and energy shopping for them.  She was picky and snobbish about them.
DH and I don't really do them for each other.  I would rather spend our money on travel experience than on more stuff.  DH's ideas about a good present for him involves the bedroom.....

  • I got him a birthday card- so at least I have that now. First time ever I could buy a husband card so that was exciting!

As for what he likes- he likes tech, cars and tools. He just got a stereo system for the car, but... I just remembered that the floor mats aren't in the best of shape and he was saying he wanted to replace them. Sooo I think that's what I'll do!

    Thanks for all your help!

  • Can you find something fun to do as a couple while you are in Vancouver? Are there any bands playing there you would love to see? What's his love language? I love long letters because I know they take a lot of time and care to write, so if I ever get a nice letter it means a lot to me. If DH hates reading, that might not be the best plan.

  • Great idea for the car mats. I know they are passionate about their vehicles! I like the extra idea of asking the hotel if they'll prep the room with balloons or champagne or chocolates or SOMETHING.

  • Car mats arrive today. We had a fantastic time in Vancouver, and DH considered everything he did a part of a grand birthday present. From hiking Grouse Grind, boating in the Straight of George, to going up to Whistler and spending a day hiking in the Alpine wilderness. We got fantastic sushi, had poutine at 1 AM and all and all just had an absolutely amazing time.

I gave him the card on Saturday. He did this whole "oh what's this?" Thing. I told him I didn't take any gifts with me up to Canada, and he replied, "I thought my stereo was my birthday present." I reminded him that he said that he didn't want that to count, he replied, "I said that? I'm sorry- I must have been kidding." Oh well, he's still getting the floor mats.
