My tiny act of rebellion against honeyfunds...

...was marking the incessant Zola ads in my Facebook feed as offensive and inappropriate. I feel strangely triumphant.

    Freaking Genius.

  • Good idea.

My FMIL suggested one to me at lunch yesterday. I squashed that idea like a spider (hastily and without mercy).

  • I had to google Zola because I didn't know what it is. It looks like registry.com or one of those all-in-one registry sites...
But, uh... there is this part towards the right that says:
"Control over Gifts Tell us when you want to receive gifts, as they are purchased, and exchange items on Zola.com before they're sent."

I had to investigate futher. I found this gem:

    Swaps

Don’t worry about changing your mind. You can convert any gift to credits.

And, my personal favorite quote from the website:

    Honest

We believe in honesty above all else,

Oh oh oh... if the guest chooses to have the item shipped to their own house, you know, instead of the couple's, then the couple can NOT "reallocate the funds towards something else"

Cash gifts take 4 to 5 days, so if a couple is planning on using wedding gifts for their honeymoon (that they are taking rigth after the wedding) this could get tricky. Oh noez!

If someone purchases an item or donates to a honeyfund on a different site, it can take 2 days for the money to transfer. And then.... you can use that money to buy the item they bought for you. Yeah.... what?

This site wants you to know that there are no fees to register! None! Except there is a processing fee for credit cards for 2.7%. Don't worry, you can make the guests pay for that. LOL.

  • How anyone actually falls for that and thinks this is in any way appropriate... just lowers my faith in humanity.

Plenty of people just never read the fine print. FMIL had no idea that when people buy "swimming with the dolphins" or "a drink on the beach" that what you actually get is 93% of the cost of that thing.

  • This is becoming a sad, sad trend...I have a feeling it will take years before people start understanding that honeyfunds are absolutely inappropriate! But well done Lolo you, a little bit at a time. A little bit at a time.

Even just reading "oh hey, cash registry, great idea!" The latest ad said something like "register for what you really want, including a cash registry!" Cash is one size fits all, folks. Comes in only one color. If two people get you exactly the same twenty you can use them both. No gift receipt required.
