Stretch marks (suggestions please)

So I've gained some weight recently, not actually that much, and now have some lovely (not) stretch marks just above my hips. Do any of you ladies have recommendations for a stretch mark cream, natural remedy, incantation or really anything to make them fade?

I've been using Vitamin E rubbed on the skin. It hasn't been noticeable yet, but I also haven't been using it that long.

I tried skimmed a couple boards on The Bump but didn't find much.

  • My SIL swears by Bio Oil, but I think she still has preggo stretch marks.  I have them on my hips and boobs from when I was 10 and started to hit puberty.  And I've always been thin too, so I guess I"m stuck with them.

  • Learn to love them.  You will earn them.

When I gave birth to my second child, they put me in a maternity room with an 18 year old mother.  She proudly told me that she had no stretch marks because she rubbed cocoa butter on her stomach every night.  I asked her how much her new baby weighed?  Six pounds, two ounces.
I wanted to kill her!  I was 32, and had just had my second Caesarian section to deliver my second 9lbs. + baby!
Then I saw her drunk husband and his posse come in.  I felt so sorry for her.

  • It's not about H noticing them. I know he doesn't care about them. I care about them and don't want people to see them when I'm rock climbing and my shirt comes up when I stretch for a hold or if I want to wear a two piece at the beach. I'm not overweight and am working on losing the bit I've gained and want to wear a two-piece again.
  • I also have had stretch marks since I hit puberty. Nothing I've tried has gotten rid of them.

Strivectin gets a lot of good reviews. I've just never encountered a "silver bullet" where stretch marks are concerned. Palmers Cocoa butter products do help, but they don't work miracles I'm afraid.

Other climbers should only be concerned that you're sending. And I bet you're the only one who notices them. Try the strivectin and attempt to not pay them any attention. Pretty much we all have them, we all hate them and we're all actively trying to ignore them.
  • Yea, I know there's no silver bullet.  :(

    Thanks for the suggestions, ladies!

  • @lovesclimbing I have a friend who's extremely self conscious about her stretch marks, and has tried almost everything imaginable, including several medical options.  She said that the most effective treatment was laser, although it was quite painful.  It seems a little extreme for your situation.

I developed them on my breast and thighs when I hit puberty, and even though I weigh less now than I did then, I still have them; they're just less obvious.  They'll definitely become less noticeable when you lose that weight you're wanting to get rid of.

Yea, laser will never happen. I don't care that much. Plus, I imagine it's pretty expensive.
  • Hers was covered by insurance, but different circumstances, different country. I don't know how'd it would be possible to get that paid for by most US insurance plans.
