We are doing a cruise for our HM! It will be my 4th. I've only done Royal Caribbean and Carnival. I really wanted to do a Celebrity or even Disney for our honeymoon but the only line that works with our timing/destinations is Carnival (not my favorite choice at all but coming to terms with it). I feel Carnival is hit or miss; the food is worse (sometimes) and the onboard stuff isn't as upscale. You definitely get what you pay for. I've done the Bahamas all of my 3 last cruises and I am done with it! Living in Florida, it's a great weekend getaway but a multi-stop Caribbean is sounds better IMO!! We love scuba diving, so we are going to hit up Belize, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Honduras (whale shark sighting capital of the world--My DREAM to swim with a whale shark) :)

I had my wedding on Carnival Dream about 6 weeks ago, and did 7-day cruise to Cozumel, Belize, and Honduras. We originally had said we wanted any cruise line, except Carnival, but it was the only one that had the itinerary we wanted, out of the port we wanted, and in price range that worked for our guests.

We had 12 people join us on the cruise and all had an amazing time. I've been on Carnival cruises before that were just okay, but I honestly don't have many complaints about this one. I think doing the longer cruises helps, because it is their newer/bigger/better ships and it didn't seem to be as overrun with kids and partiers, even though it was summer. Plus, the longer cruises feel more relaxing and less rushed. But we absolutely loved that itinerary. In Cozumel, we swam with dolphins; in Belize we went cave tubing, and we just hit the beach in Honduras... we booked all excursions independently, not through Carnival.  But, each stop was just beautiful.  Husband and I actually want to do the cruise again (not sure if we would do same ship or not) to be able to see more at each port... or we are considering a trip just to Belize.

I didn't really have many complaints about food either on this trip. And we had some pretty picky eaters in our group.  But, I did learn that you should definitely go to the specialty steak house at least once... the steak we ate there was probably the best I've had in my life, and I've eaten at some pretty high end steak houses before.

How was the cave tubing?  That is what I want to do on our January cruise on RCI...  Everyone raves about it but I'm worried it might be too "tame" for us.  We are also going to do a zip line there as a combo tour so that might help.

I did this when we stayed in Belize.  I remember there was NO current and I had to use my arms to paddle.  I'm short and my shorter arms made it more difficult and not as enjoyable as I had hoped!
  • Been on 10 cruises - RC, NCL, Celebrity, Carnival, Holland America and Disney.  Of them all, I loved Celebrity.  Their ships are gorgeous and the food was wonderful.  I disliked Disney, but loved the kids club.  Hated Carnival and swore I'd never cruise them again.  Loved the NCL ship, but felt like they nickel and dime you.  We are planning on a cruise for our honeymoon, but later in 2015.  It will probably be Princess, since Celebrity does not do the Mexican Riviera.  Man, I wish they did; I'd book that in less than a minute.
    Happiness is an inside job
  • I would definitely recommend Royal Caribbean. I have been on 3 cruises with them and 1 planned for 2016. I have been on the western Caribbean, eastern Caribbean and Canada/new England. All great. I think I would choose the Caribbean though. Loved Grand Cayman if that is an option!
  • Ditto the NO CARNIVAL- although it isnt so bad really your first time or two... when you dont know any different. Also I echo the St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia type itineraries. SOOO much better than the others in the Caribbean. Also ports like Roatan Honduras, and Barbados are awesome!

@AprilH81, we all loved the cave tubing.  My FI & his nephew also did the zip lining and enjoyed that also.  We booked independently through Butts Up Cave Tubing (www.cave-tubing.com).  They offer tubing, zipline, and ATV.  They were awesome.  Our guides were actually the best part about our experience there. And they do a bit longer tubing ride than what is offered through the ship (same route but they take you farther downriver).  We didn't have to paddle at all. Our guides actually tied onto the group of tubes (which were tied together) and swam or walked to pull us along.  So, the guides did all the work and we just got to sit back and relax.

My mom had foot surgery about 6 weeks before the trip and had trouble walking.  And you do need to walk a ways to the river. But, they carried her tube for her and walked slowly.  One of the guides stayed right by her side the whole time to make sure she didn't have any problems or need a break. I had called the day before because she was worried about walking and thought about cancelling. They said that they would do whatever it takes to get her there, even if they had to carry her... which they actually offered when we got there too.  And they were awesome with making sure she got the full experience and wasn't in pain at all.

Thanks!  That company is one of the ones I'm looking at...
