Feeling like an (inevitable) copycat

Re: Feeling like an (inevitable) copycat

  • I don't think anyone here was pissed off with you, just confused about the status of your relationship (for lack of a better word). And many people chose to be engaged for a longer period of time before they start actively planning (still in school and want to graduate, or need to save money, or waiting for someone to move…any number of reasons), but the point is that they are engaged when they do start planning.

Seriously though, just don't stress about all of the colours and flowers and favours stuff. If you aren't engaged then you have nothing to worry about right now, and if you are engaged then you still don't really have a reason to worry because no one is going to care or judge your choices on those things.

    Wedding Countdown Ticker

  • I think I would be beating a dead horse here, but I would wait to plan a wedding until you believe/feel that you are engaged.

No harm in looking, but contacting vendors, trying on dresses, picking wedding colors? Unencessary. Its too far in advance and a lot of people won't necessarily remember who had what colors. In all honesty, its all been done before. Because no color scheme is absolutely original, and because dresses are changed twice a year, it won't be a massive deal if an idea is copied. Hell, what do you think Pinterest is for? Literally, its a bunch of ideas/concepts, copied, and regurgitated to the masses. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, don't worry about it until you cross that bridge
  • I definitely scoped venues, dresses, and rings before I was engaged.  However, contacting a venue and saying "my boyfriend and I are about to be engaged, could you give me an idea of what's available over the next year?" will probably get major side eyes from places.

It's really hard and you may think you're just getting prepared, but it is not that hard to plan a wedding and if you wait until you're engaged and have more of a set date in mind the phone calls to vendors is much less awkward.
