YALL.

Bossman just came in and asked me what the human gestation period was.

He has three kids and three grandkids, and a fourth on the way.

And then when I said it was 40 weeks, he asked if I had googled it lately, because "with all the healthcare reform it might have changed." (He was kidding but still.)

And I get to go to the library and get a book called "The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure".

I love my job. I have such random responsibilities.

Re: YALL.

  • I going to vent about work.

So we just went live with booking.com.   We require 1 nights deposit to hold the reservation.  It's refundable up to 24 hours before your arrival.

There were 5 reservations made yesterday at one property..  FOUR, of them had credit cards declined.  FOUR.

The other property had 4 reservations and 3 declines.  Including one that is coming in tomorrow.

What kind of people are we attracting here?  Geez.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • ...credit card issues? Maybe?

Hopefully not sketchy peeps. Although going live with any website (even one that is well established) is bound to have some issues as systems get worked out, right?

I thought it was CC issues, but I ran other cards with no issues.   IDK.  I will try again tomorrow as it's time for me to leave the office for the day and go up the stairs to my living room.

  • It's probably just a kink in the system.

    YAY FOR FRIDAY EVE THOUGH!

Well in October ACOG changed the definition of full term, preterm, late term, over due. So it kinda, sorta changed, in that they officially acknowledge it's "normal" for a pregnancy to go longer.

  • Hahah oh yeah we are sharing work frustrations? Here's what I just dealt with: I have a client whose's name used to be ACME Widgets and Thinggies. They are a division of ACME that has all sorts of other divisions too. ACME recently went public, and part of that came with 'rebranding' ooooooo. Basically, the logo is now a little sleeker. ACME Widgets and Thinggies name got changed to Acme Devices. So I secure a story for the client. But because the name thing just happened and it's a reporter I work with all the time, I totally didn't catch that he referred to client as ACME Widgets and Thinggies. Client asked if we could get it changed. I asked him to change it to Acme Devices. Done. Client says, hey, thanks, but we aren't Acme Devices, we're just Acme, or Acme Devices' division. Are you freakin kidding me? Your website is Acmedevices.com your "about us" section is Acme Devices. They wanted me to get the reporter to change the name AGAIN. But I said no- it's going to have to stay this way because it's freakin' embarrassing at this point that you all don't know what your own company name is.

  • That sounds like a cluster.

I'm reading this book that I got Bossman from the library. It is Woowoo Armchair Psychology at its finest. Homeboy that wrote it (and currently runs a $68,000+ rehab center in Malibu, CA)? He has extensive experience......

......in real estate. And none in the psychology of addiction.

I am trying to withhold judgment on this book, and I'm certainly no expert on the subject myself, but.... I dunno. He's refuting every bit of science I ever learned relating to addiction and recovery and I'm just not sure about this.

The word "cure" in the title alone makes me skeptical.  I can't help but ask why you are reading this book for your boss.

Sorry! Never checked back with this one, haha...

    As non-specific as possible:

In a case we have (I work for a family lawyer) the opposing party is a recovering addict. The person was drinking in a photograph we have. When asked why she was drinking - as a recovering addict you're advised to avoid anything that could be a trigger, be that people, places, or things, including other intoxicating substances - she said that the book in question stated that it was okay. And I went to get it from the library and was reading it before work and was so appalled. It was like a non-fatal train wreck - it was so bad but I couldn't look away.
