Flats/slippers for guests

Hey guys!

So my sister went to a wedding about a week ago and she said that the bride and groom had set up a basket that had disposable flats/slippers for the ladies at the reception if they wanted to take their shoes off and wear those instead of going barefoot!

I thought this was a FANTASTIC idea and I have been trying to find places to buy cheap disposable flats for my wedding but I cannot find them anywhere.  I know this is starting to be a big thing and I was wondering if anyone has ordered their own set and where they got them?!

Please please please help!

Re: Flats/slippers for guests

  • Can you do flip flops and get them at old navy?
  • I don't really understand this trend.  Your guests are adults, they should know how to dress themselves for a wedding so that they are comfortable and appropriate at the same time.  I've actually never seen it done and it seems very frivolous to me when I hear about it on TK.

That said, Dr Scholls makes "Fast Flats" but they're pretty expensive at $10-12 a pair.
  • I'm with Drama on this.  I don't really see the point.  If I'm going to a wedding or party in uncomfortable shoes, I usually pack a pair of flip flops in my purse or leave them in my car.  People can take care of themselves, and yes, this does seem fairly useless.  Posters have also suggested the Old Navy flip flops before, which sounds impossible because you have no idea what sizes will be popular or not.

I realize they are adults. I think it is a cute idea is all. And yes the fast flats are a bit too expensive.
  • I also don't get the whole flip flop/barefoot thing at weddings.  Guests are attending a reception, not hiking in them.  I also would imagine it's not the first time they've worn heels.  If they can't navigate them for dinner and some dancing, they should wear flats!

  • Okay guys I understand if you don't like the idea for your own wedding, just looking to hear from folks that may have done it at their's for ideas! Thanks
  • I don't really get it either, TBH.  I mean, as a wedding guest, I will wear whatever shoe I find appropriate (flats if i foresee a lot of dancing, heels if not).

And I have never understood how people dance in flipflops.

But if you want cheap flats, I know payless has some cheap ones on clearance sometimes.  And you can do the BOGO 1/2 off deal even with clearance.  I know I've found little flats there for like $5 before.

    Target too.

  • I think its a great idea!!

I agree with the old navy idea, I have seen them on sale for $3 a pair also walmart has cheap flips and flats around the $2-3 range.
    good luck!

  • also-I live in Toronto and we have a huge china town district and I have seen cheap shoes going for $1 a pair and I know the vendors are always willing to haggle with customers do you have any ethnic communities similar to this? Might be something to look into.
we also have a chain of places here in canada called "dollarama" I have seen flippy flops there as well for $1 you dont need super high quality stuff, just good enough to get through the night.

    good luck in your hunt

  • I agree that it's silly and frankly, wasteful. Excuse me for trying to save you some money by talking you out of the idea.

  • If I'm a wedding guest, I bring my own flats to change into and leave them in the car so if I feel like I need them, I can go get them.  I'd find trying to get enough pairs in enough sizes exhausting and wasteful.
The folks on here are just trying to help you save time and money for other things!
  • Sometimes the flip flops at old navy go an sale for $1.00 a pair depending on the time of the summer ...you just have to check in with the store or watch for the commercials

  • I bring my own change of shoes wherever I go. Save your money.

  • Your guests who want them will use them and will appreciate the convenient gesture, and the guests who don't want them won't use them.  I like the courtesy flip flop idea for a casual wedding - a formal wedding probably not so much.
  • i've seen alot of weddings where they've done the slipper socks. the socks that sort of look like ballet shoes and have the non slip bottom on them so there are no dance floor injuries! plus with socks and flip flops i dont think anyone wears there actual size they way they do with heels! Its done all the time at the reception halls i've worked out. I've seen alot of brides that put them in the bathroom, that is right by the reception room. I also them put on a candy buffet with a sign "a treat for your feet"

[QUOTE]It seems like a cute idea but how do you know what sizes to get? Do you ask all the ladies what size shoes they wear? I usually have a spare pair of shoes in my car that'll go with my dress just in case. Or I just take them off (depending on where the party is).

<div>We were leaning more towards like the "foldable flats in a bag" kind of thing.  Getting a bunch of different sizes and putting them out, we wouldn't get enough for EVERY lady at the wedding because I know not everyone will use them.</div><div>

  • I think this is a good idea. Our reception won't be all that formal, so for the ladies that wore heels thinking it would be, I think it gives a good opportunity to rest their feet! Any weddings I've been to, I see a lot of women with barefeet to dance. This prevents that.

As for sizing, I would get 6, 7, 8, and 9 with more 7 and 8's than 6 and 9's and maybe a few 10's. If you have 80 women going, I'd probably get 60-70 pairs.

  • Don't know if you have any five below's in your area but they have the foldable ballets in a bag and I've gotten some cute slipper socks from FSIL from there.

  • I think it is a great idea. We did it at my sisters wedding and every single person (guys & girls) loved it. I am doing it at mine too. Honesly I wasnt expecting everyone to be so rude on here. If you dont like her idea then dont respond. Why take time to be rude and put someones ideas down. When we did it we purchased from a website called dollardays.com, they have big lots of them for cheap prices depending on the style you are looking for. They have plane white ones that are slides, thats what we used for my sisters wedding which accomodated the stockings and also the socks for the men.
  • Wow, the comment are a little aggressive. If you don't like the idea, don't comment.

If you don't bother to look at the date (2+ years ago), don't comment.
