Chit Chat

Some people seriously have WAY too much time on their hands (Man Flu discussion).

So FI and I have been commiserating as we've both been sick this week. Honestly, he's pretty good about it. Just one afternoon of napping, but otherwise still competent and working. We were having a joke about the Man Flu though (I have a friend who suffers from it very badly about four times a year) and I came across this website: http://manflu.info/index.htm How is this actually a thing? Like, someone spent time putting this together, paid for a domain name, and presumably responds to emails. The guest book is a little bit amusing though. Sorry if I'm the last one to this party. I've never actually bothered Googling "Man Flu" before.

  • I love Man Flu.  Thankfully, DH never suffers from it.  He's the exact opposite.  He could be chucking up his lungs with Ebola, Chicken Pox and Diphtheria and I'd still have a hard time trying to get him to stay home

  • Omg, I'm dying.  This is hilarious.

  • FI is kind of the same. Once worked an 18 hour shift while he had the flu. I still think the whole thing is ridiculous! I'm so happy to let FI take care of me when I'm sick, but I assume this is because I brought up with two working parents and full time nanny, so I was always cared for, and as a child I was sick, A LOT! On the other hand, I've nursed myself through far worse illnesses than FI has ever had to deal with me having, and told my friends not to come over and help because I didn't want them to get sick too. I'll have see if I can get some video of Horticulturist (the chronic man flu sufferer) and his long suffering wife (previous nanny, now MOB) during one of his frequent illnesses.

  • OMG, this is awesome.  Below are some of my favourite exerpts:
"The pain and suffering of Man Flu is similar to that of child birth

TRUE - Though at least with child birth it's all done and dusted in a few hours, but Man Flu can last for weeks..."

"The best cure for Man Flu is a cocktail of Night Nurse, Day Nurse, chicken noodle soup and whiskey.

FALSE - There is no cure for Man Flu. Once infected the afflicted can only hope that the gods roll the dice in favour of life rather than slow, lingering death."

  • Oh man. FI is so susceptible to Man Flu. That's when my name becomes HONeyyy with a pouty face attached that looks like someone just killed his puppy. HONey... I don't feel so good. HONeyyy...can you please get me some more applesauce? Oh HONeyyyy...my head...my ice pack...

  • My FI never, ever gets this. He is pretty much dying before he's like, okay I'm sick.

Then I get texts to bring cold medicine and/or ibuprofen and/or a shotgun to put him out of his misery. The two times he's been sick, he HAS been a wee bit whiny, but he gets whiny when he's bored, and he didn't even feel well enough to fiddle on his iPad or his video games or even his phone so he was bored.

The first time he was sick, he moaned via text for a few hours until I got off and brought him some cold medicine, at which point he told me to go away. He kept saying I was going to get sick. I finally said, "FI, I work with kids. I have worked with kids for five years. Unless you have strep, I am not getting sick."

My DAD, though. Life goes like this:
Me: *allergy/random not-even-sick sneeze within 50 feet of my dad*
    ---three days later---
Dad: *sneeze, sniffle* Cait you got me sick. I'm going up to bed.

  • LOL FI totally gets ManFlu!  He got a tetnus shot yesterday and is still bitching about his arm.   I work in heathcare, so I was like "Your vitals are fine!"

I come from a long like of "Walk it off".  My dad denied his Type 1 diabetes until he could barely stand (NOT a bragging right!!!).  I deny illness as well (I'm working on this).  I lost my voice at work and my MOH had to redirect all the calls to her while I did work in the background.  I'm like' William Wallace when it come to illness!  Charge into battle WAHHHH!

  • It takes a lot for FI to whine about not feeling well. Like, hospitalization bad. The only two times I've known him to take medication have been for things that eventually landed him in the ER. I feel like such a baby in comparison lol.
