We had friends over last night. Today's FB status posts currently consist of the following:

Last night involved no pants and some puking
Cavorting in fountains, burning things, misplaced cars at the end of the night... you guys throw a great party.

We had 3 couple over, so 8 adults and all of their kids (6). 3 were babies under 1, 2 kids are 3 and 1 is 5. We had a fire pit and roasted hot dogs over the pit and then had s'mores for dessert. The kids played in the water feature and the 3 year old ended up with no pants cos they were in the dryer. One of the babies is a puker and chucked 3 times after being breast fed. We had anti-mozzie torches burning all night, which thankfully kept them away for the most part, and 1 family brought over about 10 little hot wheels type cars that were all over the yard by the end of the night.

Considering how that post could be taken if we were all youger, its quite funny how's the meaning has changed once kids come along. I know others had plans for showers and such. How did your weekend go??

  • Sounds great!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

That's really funny. I totally read your post the "college" way at first.

I'm working at home this weekend. On the computer. I finally scheduled a doctors appointment to have my thyroid evaluated and get the ball rolling with allergy testing. I'm not sure why but I've been avoiding these things for years.

H and I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy earlier today, it was AWESOME.

Seriously, go see it. Tons of fun.

I have loaded up my car with Goodwill donations, and am looking forward to spending the day with my mom tomorrow.

  • I can't imagine allergy testing.  I hate needles.  But good for you for getting it done.

Chibiyui, we saw it a couple weeks ago.  I really enjoyed it, but DH was meh on it.  He said he was expecting something more like Avengers versus the funny type of movie it was.

Marvel needed a breather movie between Winter Soldier and next years Avengers': Age of Ultron. :p

  • Pretty good weekend over here! Dress fitting and lunch yesterday with FMIL; was nice to spend some QT with her and she was really happy to get to see my dress. Then a quick trip to the gym before one of those painting party things for a friend's birthday. Baby shower for FI's cousin today, and everyone was decently impressed with the handmade elephant I made even though I wasn't super happy with the way his belly turned out.

Bad news - had to buy new lace to re-make my veil because I realized yesterday that what I had was way too yellow. :(

  • Great weekend over here, too!  The BBQ yesterday was mostly a success.  My dad showed up which is like a unicorn sighting.  He brought ribs and we all nommed.  Everybody had fun, we drank, we ate, we wound up at the bar with friends afterwards.

Unfortunately a whole chunk of our college friends no-showed, so we have an entire tray of burger patties left over.  I'm going to try to carefully wrap and freeze them.

Today Fi and I took the ferry across the river and wandered around lower Manhattan like tourists and had a great time.  I did a little shopping and it does seem that two weeks of dieting and boot camp are having some effect, because I had to size down in everything!  Yay!

We took a selfie looking back across the water at our neighborhood.  God, I love living here.

  • Nice!!  We still have  a lot of empty walls in our house and it's been almost 3 years

  • We're spending our Saturday night with an unexpected ER visit. I seriously thought I was having a heart attack, but they're thinking more panic attack. I was addressing wedding announcements when it started. Wheee! Still waiting for the doc to give the all clear. Maybe some xanax.

magic - That is super scary! Glad you are (relatively) alright.

And Lolo it's SO pretty. So, so, pretty.
  • Friday night was my surprise bachelorette party. As far as I knew, it was a games night with friends. I got into an argument with FI the night before because the FB invite said everybody should bring something to eat (because that's what always happens at these things) and he said we didn't have to bring anything. I said that made us look like bad guests and I insisted that we bring something. Of course, I found out later that he didn't want to bring anything because he knew it was my bachelorette party. Oops.

I spent most of yesterday recovering from a wicked hangover.

  • That's hilarious! I'm glad it was a success.

Saturday morning we went bridesmaids dress shopping with my SIL and younger brother's GF. It was so fun and they both found dress they liked!

Saturday was my little brother's 21st birthday party. He lives with my dad (and dad works third shift so was not home) so he was really nervous about it getting out of hand. He was glad that only 60 people showed up and other than a few high schoolers coming and puking, it all went fine.

I didn't get home until after 4 am though...that's usually when I'm waking up! Then I had to wake up at 8 am to go clean at my dad's and get ready for my friend's bridal shower that I threw (at my dad's). It turned out well but I was exhausted. Like exhausted to the point I wanted to just cry all day. When I finally finished cleaning up from the shower, I did. I cried like a baby and made FI change my clothes for bed. I was asleep by 7:30 pm.

  • Totally cracking up, OP. That is too funny!

We took a spontaneous camping trip. I found a campground online that had sites open, so we packed up the car and the dog Friday night and drove up.

    The Good:
The campground was so awesome. The facilities were the cleanest I've ever seen. The owner reminded me of my Grandma. We were fast friends. I can't wait to return. We met some nice people too.

    The Bad:
I decided to invite my brother and FSIL to join us Saturday night. It was a huge mistake.
  • I worked! But I got BIG money because it was a weekend shift, on overtime (time and a half yay!) AND I had signed up extra for critical shift (not enough staff originally). Sooo if my base pay was one dollar an hour, working weekends makes it 5 dollars an hour, and critical shift makes it 9 dollars an hour.. Then time and a half! 12 dollars a shift to 162 dollars a shift!

Obviously my base pay is more than 1 dollar an hour. So you can imagine that I'm pretty excited for this paycheck. I think I just bought a washing machine!

  • My body hurts   :-(

I worked the beverage cart on Saturday.  On Sunday I worked the grill at the turn, then bar tended a private house party that night.  Yesterday was a 14 hour day for me.  Oh and I got my monthly "friend" in the middle of the day.  GRR.

The party was great though.  The members are just so sweet.   The setting was amazing.   On a golf course, little broke running through it, great views of the mountains.     It was really nice and they took care of me.

Now it's  Monday.  Like in every sense of the word.     I hate the boss's son.  Like really, really hate him.   He dropped the owner bills end of last week.  Didn't tell me.  I knew they were coming, but didn't know the details or when.  He decided he is not working today.  He never imported the invoices to the online accounting system (the only system I have access to).     So people are calling to make payments and I have ZERO information on their invoice.    NOTHING.

    Double grrrr.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We finally have an offer on our house!  It only took about 120 days on the market!  And now we may also get a back up offer!  So H & I can finally start seriously tooking at houses!

We also were down the shore for the weekend, which culminated in my BFF's family reunion on Saturday.  It's basically an all you can eat blue claw crab fest!  They bought 6 bushels this year!  (My BFF's family is huge!  Her mom has 9 brothers & sisters, then add in all the spouses, kids, cousins and adopted family, like myself and it's usually 100 people!).  There was lots of great news passing around the event too - engagements and babys.  Also, BFF's aunt and uncle who have been engaged for 34 years announced their elopement!  So they had an improptu cake and spot light dance for them to REO Speedwagons' "I can't fight this feeling anymore".

We also had a great weekend! On Sat H went to a cookout by our Alma Mater and I spent the day at a beach then went to a 90's cookout that night (90's attire requested, 90's food was present, we all got snap bracelets as a favor and just a dance party to 90's music all night).

JCbride2015 said all of our college friends were no shows :( but still had a great turnout!

ETA: We have so much beer leftover from lack of college friends showing...

  • Saturday was a hellish day of working on our spare bedroom project. We've gutted it down to the foundation and are finally rebuilding.

    But more importantly....

I had my shower yesterday! My aunt threw it at a lovely restaurant (if any Chicagoans need a venue for a shower, Mindy's Hot Chocolate in Wicker Park is ridiculous) with a fabulous menu, lots of champagne, and a big turnout. 18 people came (which is huge in our social circle). It was absolutely perfect! I had friends, coworkers, family, and family friends. I was walking on air - (and chocolate and champagne)!

We also got so many gifts that we couldn't bring them home. They are currently sitting in my parent's basement. I thought we registered for enough for our shower and wedding but we're cleaned out of one registry and the other 2 are halfway gone. I'm so overwhelmed by the generosity.

And happy that I have leftover cake in my lunch for today!

  • Pretty good weekend over here. DH was in the wedding from hell this weekend and it actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Friday night was the super duper fancy, over the top rehearsal dinner. The B&G hosted a 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings for 40 people at a fancy seafood restaurant downtown. It was like the fanciest dinner I've ever had.

Saturday was the wedding, everything went pretty well for the most part. After the ceremony there was a short gap to drive to the venue (about 45mins) and the bridal party + dates was supposed to get drinks in hospitality room at the venue before the reception started. It ended up that they didn't have anywhere to put us, and we just stood around the lobby of the venue for a while waiting to be let into cocktail hour. The only other notable thing was that the B&G are obnoxiously gluten free and talk about their gluten free diet on repeat nonstop all the time. For the last year, they've raved about their gourmet, gluten free chef at their crazy expensive/elite venue. Well guess what, the food sucked. I've had better steak at Ponderosa. All in all a decent time thought.

Yesterday DH and I drove around the Chi burbs looking for where we might want to buy a house. We found an area we both LOVED and are now moving forward with getting a realtor!!
